*** Official Lindenwood vs IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

Be nice if both Nebraska and ISU would scrap the Lindenwood game on their schedules and play one another instead. I predict a hammering tonight.

Lose/lose situation to play the Skers regardless of who their coach is.

Win and you beat the worst major conference program in basketball history. Lose and you lost to the worst major conference program in basketball history.

This place if ISU lost to Fred would be pretty wild.

Not to mention historically it's scheduling a team that is a tournament team about 3% of seasons.

0-7 all time.

Drake and UNI are objectively better programs and have a greater chance of looking good on the resume.

Gotta give you credit, you’re committed to the bit

Believe it or not I WANT the guy to do well. The problem was (last year) he was getting as many minutes as Tre King. Outside of the games (and there were some) where Tre had foul issues that's a problem and it happened way too often last year.

I'm glad the coaching staff recognized it, told Tre he was "the man" going into this year, and King has put himself in position to get big minutes. It's up to him to stay on the floor.

I also think Ward is more valuable than BRE. Against the better teams BRE is a liability with his rotational defense (simply isn't quick enough to keep up which isn't his fault). Ward is an absolute game changer for us defensively and think we will be a much better team with him, King, and Biliew getting the majority of the minutes.

The short is BRE had a utilization rate by the coaching staff that far exceeds his talent level. This means one of two things need to happen: BRE needs to get a lot better (quicker rotations, high shooting percentage, much better free throws) or he needs to be utilized correctly. Given his age and performance trajectory I advocate it will likely be the latter that needs to change.

Dude needs minutes. Badly. As many as possible...

...but he has to stop fouling in order to play.

He was victimized by ****** referring but he needs to learn to adapt (as that will happen). That was a massive frustration last year, when referees set the tone and our players would keep playing the same way. Do that and the only thing you'll be doing is riding the pine (with foul trouble).

Hopefully our athleticism helps keep us out of those situations a bit (and the depth) but I'd like for us to show we can adapt if and when we encounter it, which willy likely happen (at least) a few times during the season.

Sorry for dropping the ball everyone. I knew I would mess up with so many more threads to do. Mix that with my crazy work schedule (today is my 75th straight day at work).
It's not a problem. Remind me to give you a day off after BB season.

:D:jimlad:
You are working 7 days a week? Consider 8? We demand 1 more! Seriously, take some time off!

I agree, and i think 1 of his fouls was just him being amped up, but the other 3-4 were VERY ticky tacky I felt. However, I would rather he be in some of these situations now than during conference play

fun thread on a Thursday, especially the back and forth about BRE.

No matter what I believe this team has tremendous potential. The depth is there, the leadership is there, and the athleticism is definitely there. I hope Omaha can get into the flow more, along with Ward and Watson. Tamin is rock steady, and thinking that the game goes as he goes.

To channel my inner Dream Team era Charles Barkley..."I dont know anything about Lindenwood, but Lindenwood is in trouble"

75 days a week rolls off the tongue for a pop song.

I'm intrigued to see how Curtis Jones does throughout these first few games. I think he is going to be extremely streaky on the offensive end. He can do some other things (decent size, can handle the ball, etc.) but I worry he has a little KJ Bluford in him (a chucker).

In a game like this, where his contributions really won't influence the outcome, I think Otz should play him as much as humanly possible. Personally I'd ease up on Tamin's, Gilbert's, MomC and R. Jones' minutes and go heavy on the younger players and guys with (and you hope have) expanded roles. Omaha, Ward, King, Watson, C. Jones and even guys like Pav should get minutes. Normally I wouldn't put a freshman like MomC in that category but I think his game is already advanced as a freshman. His tests will come against the harder competition, something he won't see until maybe the Iowa game.

Let's get some guys (like Omaha and C Jones) some confidence, try to get Watson confident in his shot early, and get Ward and King used to seeing big minutes without getting into foul trouble. Our schedule is pretty deplorable so we might as well use it to our advantage. Having Tamin and Gilbert feast on crap (possibly risking injury), having MomC school another crap team, or having Jones give us exactly what we know he will give (many on here know I'm not a fan of the minutes he gets but in this case it's more about not giving a guy minutes who is a known quantity and has the same role) doesn't do much for the improvement of the team.

More than the outcome (score) I'm more interested to see how Otz allocates minutes and how the guys in the 2nd paragraph handle certain situations.
TJ has an interesting but good problem. How do I give my guys the all minutes they deserve? Some likely will not get the minutes they probably should get. I do like that we will be able to play a lot of guys. That's a great problem to have.

It is an interesting team and coaching dynamic that will play out this year and will have an impact on next years team and maybe who returns, or doesn't.

I hope you get a day off soon. I don't want you to get any health issues. We need you around here for these gameday threads.

If you are working 75 straight days, I hope you are bringing some decent coin in the process at least.

He had 9 games last year where he hit 4 or more threes. He's got range and shot 36% on a really high volume of attempts last year. He'll get going from deep. Just started with one bad game.

For reference, CuJo shot more threes than Gabe Kalscheur last year. Gabe attempted 6.2 per game (35.4%). CuJo attempted 6.7 per game at Buffalo (35.9%).
