I'm afraid this will never be the case in the new NIL world. For example, every scholarship player on Utah's roster will now receive a new Dodge Ram pickup truck to drive around. How does Iowa State's We Will collective compete with that?
Utah will never have the money and history that OU or UT has, sure they have more money than us, but it will not be an overwhelming difference like it is now.

Rules will be passed regarding NIL, right now we are in the Wild West regarding it, that will not continue forever, the Blue Bloods will not want to lose their place in the peaking order and will force it on the rest of us.

A quick google search shows leasing a new Dodge Pickup to run around $619 a month, plus they were adding insurance, so let's call it $700 a month. Take that number by 12 months and then 85 players, you are looking at $714,000 a year. Great for a year or two, but let's see how long that continues.

There were literally no wins left on the schedule according to you 4 weeks ago; absolutely zero wins left. Now after going 3-1 in that stretch there are “lots of wins left.” Pretty clear that you are now setting the stage for 6-6 or 7-5 to be a failure because “we left more wins out there.”
You are never happy. Did you complain that your cereal was wet this morning?

I also found it hard to find wins a few weeks ago. Happy to be wrong there but two things can be true. We can be very happy with a 7 or 8 win team and we can be frustrated that we again gave away games early in the season that take the accomplishment of this team to another level. Those two don't really matter because they don't influence conference finish and two more doesn't get us into the playoffs but when it goes to a 12 team playoff, it will matter.

All of that can be true. There can be some nuance in a conversation and it doesn't have to be a pass/fail system. 6 or 7 wins isn't a failure at all but neither is some grand accomplishment. It's somewhere in the middle and that's fine because at ISU, that's where you often will live.

The problem is not allowing for growth…and not appreciating that sometimes bad games and losses are instrumental for future success. People look backward and say we shouldn’t have lost to Ohio…but I wonder if we beat OK St and Cincinnati if we’d beaten Ohio.

Then people are now looking ahead at the schedule saying we can beat everyone except Texas…and what if the weather is really bad or this or that happens and we beat them. Then we’re in the Big 12 Championship Game. And of course then people would feel like we belonged there all along and had we not lost to Iowa and Ohio, we could have clearly been playing for a playoff spot. And as you said, a couple weeks ago…our only win was going to have come from a win over a FCS team.

It just lacks balance…it’s not healthy…and frankly for those of us who do have some perspective, it’s a bit nauseating.

The total value of Utah's truck deal is $6 million, not $714,000.

what will be interesting is if these players seriously hurt someone in a car accident and if the plaintiffs can go after the collective also for personal injury since they supplied the truck. could be very interesting.

The article says total value, but it also said they are just leasing the trucks for the players, not purchasing them. That would bring the cost down quite a bit.

In any deal like this I would think the collective has the player sign a waiver that releases the collective of any responsibility of accidents caused by the players. They were also providing insurance on the vehicles which would be written the same way.

It is getting the buzz that they want, and I am sure the players love it.

We beat Ohio 13-10.....we may not beat Okie St. or Cincy because CMC would have seen no reason to change his offensive philosophy and the guys might still be stuck in a rut.

I'm not into his catch phrases so I don't look at it like "growth" for him. Maybe the players, you would hope they would improve as the season unfolds.

But for CMC.....it was being stubborn pure and simple. He was bound and determined to have the run game dictate how the offense would run. He had said as much. Thank you Ohio is all I can say. Because now defenses have to defend more of the field against ISU than just the line of scrimmage.

The truck leases are for the life of each player's eligibility (i.e., period of 4 to 6 years), plus all of their insurance.... approximately $6 million.

The point is Iowa State cannot compete with that, so it's a bit naive to think the playing field going to finally be level after this year.
