There has been a few rumors over last week or so that the Pac 2 (could) be added to the B12. The rumor seems to say that ESPN wants to kill any chance of the P12 remaining in any form, they dont want another "Power" conference remaining to deal with etc. The way I understand is at least ESPN, may be willing to pay their share or at least a partial share to bring them to the B12, at a reduced rate, so like 20M per year avg.
Everything right now seems to be on hold until the battle for the P12 assets is done. They cant really make any moves until that is settled, whether to move to the MWC or whatever.
I have not seen anything more than rumor, but that at least is the theory.
I feel bad for WSU and OSU but might as well call us the Big Pac. The Pac has floundered for a reason and now we are going to add 2 more of their schools. 3 of the 4 schools didn't want to be in the Big 12 in the first place. WSU and OSU didn't either. They'll be extremely happy to take the Big 12 lifeline, but that gratitude will wear off fast.

They only floundered because they didn't take the deal when it was offered first to them, right? If they had, those words belong to the Big 12. We got pretty lucky in the whole thing.
I don't understand the fascination with it when it's obviously an attempt to shoehorn something that fits in one sport into another one that is completely different. The Big 12 FINALLY has worked its way to a conference of equals when we yeet OU and UT out after this year but people keep wanting to make this happen apparently. It's infinitely worse than talk about pods, imo.
Sort of. The Pac floundered on leadership on the presidential and conference level, lack of fan interest, and PST only teams.

I wonder if both the Big12 and PAC were looking for a media deal at the same time, who'd the networks would have preferred.
The PAC got an offer first because they were the next big conference to have their media deal expire, the Big 12 expired a year after the PACs expired.
I think the media got exactly what they wanted, better timeslots. And now that most of the Pac is branching at least 3 time zones, it makes those teams more valuable in their new slots.
I personally think the media would have been just as happy with either the pac or Big12 alive. The pac is putting up great numbers this year both in ratings and rankings. If they would have had this many good teams a year or two ago the landscape could be very very different. I get some of the frustration from the pac fans that didn’t want to go to the Big12 when it looks like the top two/three teams in the Big12 will be the expansion teams.
I agree. I think the time zone thing was a big negative. Right now, they're putting PAC games on at 9:30 Central Time. Nobody is going to stay up that late to watch two teams from another conference. Now they can play half their games in regular time slots, and other in their conference may want to stay up to watch them in a late game.
I heard the announcers on the WSU / OSU game say that the Big12 should pick these schools up. Yet it was their employer that has the power to make that happen. If the TV networks offer to match the existing payout, they’re in the Big12 tomorrow. But yes, let’s plead to the Big12 to be charitable and bring them in for no extra money.
Why doesn't the Big 10 pick up WSU and OSU instead of the Big 12 being the savior? They can keep the in-conference rivalries going with Washington and Oregon, and the geography makes sense for travel. It's not like the Big 10 can't afford to take a slight hit per revenue per team, though nobody wants to mention that in the media and keeping up with the SEC.
The other elephant in the room answer for the Big 10 is that they want to wait until the ACC blows up and grab more valuable schools. Well, don't we want to do the same, adding more geographic, valuable, and rival fits like Pittsburgh, Louisville, NC State, and Virginia Tech?

There's a reason they received the "Death Penalty" from the NCAA some years back.
SMU is and always has been utterly corrupt with regards to athletics. They are probably even beyond the really corrupt SEC schools like Auburn.
Why would the AAC be okay with 5+7? They have a chance to get a team in every year with 6+6. Otherwise they are competing with the Mtn PAC for the last of the 5, and they are never going to get an at large those years.
5+7 is the P4 with the top G5 as an autobid, so it’s their best chance. Going to all at large is the only scenario they don’t want.
If they go all at large, everyone outside the sec and big are doomed even faster than they already are.
