Well back from Montana, work trip with a little fun thrown in. The remodeled Mt. Rushmore is really well done so more people can go through it and still retained it's atmosphere. Saw some critters prairie dogs, Buffalo, antelope, deer, Turkeys, Coyotes but they were road killed. Wasn't impressed with Founding Fathers brewery in Custer wasn't that impressed with their beer enjoyed the food. (to be fair tried one wasn't my favorite though I usually do like that style, switched to water because wanted to drive to Mt. Rushmore for the lighting ceremony)
Belle Fourche S.D. is the geographic center of the U.S. plaque and everything to show you (technically 20 miles N on someone's ranch most likely)
Devil's tower pretty cool and not all that busy the day I was there. Nice hiking trails some paved some crush rocked.
Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. It can't help but but be a somber experience IMO. They do a good job of explaining the Indian side of things nowdays. There is a neat monument that has been added for the Indians and their known killed warriors are marked with granite monuments compared to marble(?) for the cavalry.
The rockpile museum in Gillette Wyoming is ran by a guy from Ogden Iowa, nice guy (Hawk alum in History with a Masters(?) in museum curation maybe?) we actually have mutual acquaintance. Nice County museum. Also saw the coal mine overlook those trucks are HUGE.
The S.D. air and space museum is outdoors only at this time. The B29, B52, and B1B were my personal favorites.
The Meadowlark Brewery in Billing Mt makes some damn good beer went 3for3 there. Food is good also.
Evidently S.D. slopes W to E because running the cruise got me 5mpg better coming home at the same speed. Iowa needs to raise their 4 lane speed limits.. IMO. Montana is proud of their gas $4 to $4.45/gallon. The rest of it was under 3.85. It was a good trip.
