Long term implications

The biggest implication might be immediate term, not long term.

Donations are going to dry up fast... and attendance at games is going to take a nosedive.
I don't know sometimes losing increases donations, I'm upping mine.

I Really wonder what happens with NIL donations for football. People donated last year and we responded with 1 WR and a 5th string RB from the portal on offense. If we dont get better on offense it doesnt really matter if we retain players on defense either because the offense will continue to lose games

CMC doesn't believe in using NIL money to "go get" players... he's said that. He believes in using it to reward the players that have proven themselves by their play at ISU. It's dumb... but not surprising.

Campbell is masterful the past 2 seasons at losing 1 score games. Most of those games we lost the turnover battle. Pretty sure that's not in the game plan.

Don't get me wrong, I think donations overall will go down but some people will double down to make up some of the losses.

Well. Other than our corners we won't have to spend money on anyone.

The defense has the horses to play at a high level.
The offense does NOT have the horses to play at a high level.
It shows on game day.

CyTown will be an absolute joke. The only it will do is ruin the great tailgating we had north of the stadium.

I fear you are correct.

If you're going to do a CyTown... do it on Welch in CampusTown and make that strip totally awesome. I know that land isn't owned by ISU, so it wouldn't help JP's money situation though. But this CyTown thing could be a gigantic failure if not done perfectly right.

After attending the Southeast Polk game last night, I think our offense might have a hard time against their defense. Moberly looked better than Becht does right now, and they have a wide receiver who is better than most of ours are. Sorry, I think he is only a junior. 1-11, not even close.

Moberly is already better than Kohl IMO... but that isn't going off a whole lot. I'm not giving up on Becht yet... he's shown promise when he's allowed to open it up.

Both Moberly and Kohl came from wide-open offenses. They now enter a realm of an offense that runs at all cost. If something doesn't change, both will deteriorate or leave.

As I stated in another thread, with NIL and the portal we are heading into a very deep, dark hole for a very long time.

Long term implications? We have never have been great historically and never will be. Yes we have had 9 win seasons but we immediately fall back to where we belong, middle to bottom feeders. Next round of realignment will officially free my weekends up completely.

Lack of NIL money is going to kill Iowa State football.

Basketball may suffer some as well.

Problem is now that we've made big time college sports a business, fans are now customers, more so than they've ever been. Not solely passionate alumni who happen to show up to games.

Customers are more transactional about the money they give for (in this case) entertainment. If they don't get something in return they'll find better uses for their money. Hard to ask for more and more donations/NIL when the team isn't giving results in return.
