***Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Every time I've been to an I Cubs game since he got called up last year he either was not in the lineup for that game or injured. Would love to see him play in person once. I Cubs are really fun to watch right now with all the talent they have that is on the verge of a callup or already has been up at some point.
I saw him play twice last year, before the injury, and wow was he impressive. Like, top 10 prospect in all of baseball level impressive. If he gets most of that back, the Cubs can move on from Suzuki whenever they'd like.

Loss tonight sucks but Keller was absolutely on one.

Would love to see the NY angle that definitely overturned Bellinger being out at first.

Shittiest part is the Brewers are the hottest team in baseball right now. I’d say last shot for division comes next week.

Honestly, they just don’t have the pitching to do anything more then make the playoffs. If Stroman would of been able to come back and dominate it's a different story. If we get in then resign Bellinger the season is a success.

Matt Shaw is still raking at High-A in his first, abbreviated season. Wish he had a stronger arm and could project to play 3B. He’s going to fly through the minors next year.

I could see Shaw move to 3B - Madrigal was knocked for his arm and has been a pretty stellar at 3B. His torrid pace has me thinking he could be up by mid-summer next year.

15 of Hendricks' 18 starts have resulted in 3 ER or fewer. I'm getting to the point with him where I accept the $16 million option irregardless of what Stroman does. You aren't going to find someone better at that price.

I think you need to start clearing room for the young guys.

With Ohtani being too big of a risk as a starter i could see us going hard for someone like Snell. Him and resigning Bellinger is one hell of an off season.

If so we'd likely look like.
1. Snell
2. Steele
3. Stroman (likely player option)
4. Taillon
5. Assad, Wick, Brown, Wesneski in no certain order.

I'm holding out Horton till 2025 for now.

I think Hendricks is a prefect security blanket if Stroman opts out.

Madrigal is good enough that I don't see us resigning Candelario. Instead give Morel a shot and see if he can figure it out. If not Shaw likely takes over in 2025.

It will be interesting to see how soon Shaw starts getting time at third, guessing it will be in the fall league.

I'm actually at the point where I see if I can get somebody to overpay for Morel over the winter. I don't think he's ever going to be a passable defender and you've got guys that strike out less and have similar contact profiles coming right behind him. Plus, you're going to need the DH for some flexibility with the outfield jam coming.

You're locked into Happ and Seiya. PCA is ready. Canario is a better Morel and that's before you even consider Mervis and McGeary.

I don't know, with Ohtani likely off the table, I don't foresee money being an issue, especially with Hendricks coming off the table the following season. If you opt out of Hendricks, you owe him $1.5 million, so you're really only saving $14.5 million. I get wanting to get the young guys some time, but I'm not sure I'd want that at the expense of a good arm for cheap.

I could see going with a six man rotation, which would make even more sense if you're serious about Yomamoto, as Japan runs six man rotations. This then would allow your vets an extra day of rest and your youngsters an extra opportunity to start.

Agree - Morel is a great clubhouse guy and it's nice to have someone on the roster you can trust to play 6 positions in emergency situations. But we're loaded in the outfield and I'd prefer Madrigal as a backup 2nd/3rd basemen over Morel.

Well he got out of that jam with just a solo HR and 3 K but threw close to 25 pitches. Hope he settles in and can give them 5 innings.
