And Kliavkoff said last week that the longer they wait on their media package, the better their deal will be. Welp, so much for that, George.

They left for what was a much more stable league at the time that was a cultural fit for the entire university. They did what was best for them at the time and I would expect Iowa State would've done the same thing had the opportunity presented itself.
They can still rot.

The 365Sports guys discussed during a podcast earlier this week. The age old chicken/egg who's to blame for Big12 instability- Texas or Nebraska?

They mentioned that back in 2010ish the Pac12 approached only members of the Big12 South Division about a merger. So Texas, A&M, Tech and OU would join Pac10. Baylor was a no because of religious affiliation. My assumption is Okie State was excluded because of academics. The merger didn't happen because Texas wouldn't give up tier 3 TV rights.

But those talks by the Big12 South schools were the impetus for Nebraska, Mizzou & CU to explore new conferences. Along with Texas refusing to bundle its Tier 3 rights with other Big12 schools after the Longhorns decided to stay in Big12 (A&M to SEC).

So I have a tough time blaming CU, Mizzou or even Nebraska for leaving the Big12. Tough because I valued those old Big 8 rivalries over any we have now with Texas schools.
Plenty of blame. They get some.

In addition to the Tornado Game, no Colorado highlight is complete without the “Double Buck” game in Boulder in the snow.
Honorable mention to the 2007 game when Colorado had two chances for a game tying FG and couldn’t get either one off before time ran out

What is a "travel partner"? I understand wanting away games close to your campus but why call that a 'travel partner"?
Think volleyball where two similar in geography travel to another location with two schools near by, they get two matches against two teams in three days. Same for the reverse of home/away.

They’re $70M behind the average B12 net since they left. You can spin it however you want to, it ended up being a horrible decision. Without even getting into the athletic results.

Because Olympic sports travel to say Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and play Friday-Sunday in a single trip. With that they'll also send those teams on the road at the same time since their home schedules have to align a bit for it to all work out. Iowa State softball and WVU baseball are actually "travel partners" because we lack baseball and they lack softball.

Man, I forgot just how insufferable Mandel was when Texas and Oklahoma left. I appreciate people digging up his old tweets, because he really was all about dancing on the Big 12's presumed grave at that time.

Then it was only after USC and UCLA announced their departures that he started to talk about how realignment and the drive for money is bad for the sport (but nearly exclusively in the context of losing California rivalries). And after the Big 12's new media deal, his tone basically shifted to "Sure the Big 12 will survive, but the Pac-12 is still in a better spot."

Assuming that the Pac-12 does indeed fall apart, I'm going to feel bad for those schools' fans that still would prefer meaningful regional rivalries. And I'll feel especially bad for OSU and WSU fans who may end up in the same spot that Iowa State fans worried about in the past. But it's because of people like Mandel (and select other fans) that I can't help but also feel a bit giddy about the whole situation.
