Back-to-back: Z's first flute lesson is in the books. They seemed to be a lot of joy and laughter.
Making those notes is hard, but it sounds like she'll be just fine.

My sister played the oboe. Definitely the oboe.

An oboe is a perfectly good instrument but in the hands of a novice, look out - excruciating.

Take this up about two octaves, double the volume and stretch it out for an hour a day and you've got about 10% of the cringe factor.

Oh, it actually would. I played the baritone/euphonium. I'd love it, and I like all the noise.
Right now, the tuba would be more of a bed than an instrument for her. We'd probably have to build an apparatus just to support it.

I think it can also give the oboist headaches, until they get the pressure figured out.

Honestly, he no longer enjoys playing the oboe. He did make a decent wage playing with an orchestra for a while but he's moved on to being an author (in a niche category of books) and his instrument of choice is now the harp. My nephew would be the primary bread-winner in the family.

I wouldn't wish tuba on ANY parent. Listening to my son practice, it sounded more than anything else like an elephant farting...

They must make like 1/2 and 3/4 size tubas I know most of those instruments you can ratio down and maintain the like tonal fidelity or whatever.
