GOTG Vol. 3 answered all of those questions and then some for me, particularly #3 (and I didn't look at my watch one single time). And while the emotion I felt during a couple of certain scenes (I don't know how to do spoilers) was sadness to the point of feeling actual tears running down my face, I'd rather feel that for a few minutes than feel nothing.

If you’re thinking of…

The flashback to Rocket’s escape attempt and subsequent deaths of his friends, I completely agree. The emotion they were able to pull from a CG character was truly next level. Major props to Bradley Cooper’s vocal performance too. Heart wrenching scene.

Yep. That and the next scene those particular characters were all in together.

I really enjoyed it and it was my second favorite post-Endgame MCU movie after No Way Home.

@dahliaclone What specifically made your significant other want to leave? That honestly surprises me if they enjoyed previous Marvel movies.
Said Pratt just mailed it in and was horrible acting in it. All the slow mo walking to the soundtrack. The effects especially the costumes of those slug looking things was laughably pathetic. Way too long even halfway through. While he’s been a huge Marvel fan he thinks everything lately is not good. And he already said he has no interest in The Marvels because it looks so cheesy.

We were chatting with his friends today that are also huge Marvel fans and they said they actually did walk out.

Made a **** ton of money though this weekend!

I’m not sure I’ve seen Chris Pratt mail in a performance. Closest maybe was Thor Love and Thunder. But that’s because that movie was **** and the guardians were stupidly used in it. Otherwise I agree with his thoughts on the current phase.

Appreciate your thoughts on it, as everyone has different tastes. You and your friends are honestly the only people I have heard not like it and actually hate it.

This may not be the case, but I mentioned earlier in the thread that I think if you don’t like (especially walked out of) Guardians 3 I think it’s more that you are burned out of Marvel movies and perhaps super hero movies in general, as this movie was way better than Guardians 2, which I think you said you liked and your other half liked.

Not sure Marvel can put out much of anything that would appease you to be honest, aside from taking a long break to let the over saturation die off.

DC can still pull something out because the bar is so low aside from a couple of movies. Sounds like The Flash has a great chance to be up there as a great superhero movie.

BTW I completely agree with you on The Marvels and pretty much all of Phase 4 and beyond. Thor 4 was brutal, Wakanda Forever was 45 minutes too long, Ant Man Quantumania had potential and I had fun with it, but just fell flat in a few areas that really stuck out.

But Guardians 3 if you honestly assess it against many of the Phase 1-3 movies, and unhook the burnout, is better than many of them and right on par with several that are highly rated by most imo.

Hope they come out with a movie that gets you back and excited in the theater, as I hate it when I’m looking forward to something and it doesn’t live up to it in any way. I feel your frustration.

Yeah I have accused Pratt of mailing it in over the last few movies he’s done, especially Fallen Kingdom and his appearance in Thor 4 and the Guardians Xmas special. But disagree completely that he mailed it in for this Guardians 3. He brought a character that has gone through a lot of **** and is beat down with life while still trying to lead this team of misfits. His troubles and trials dealing with Gamora is well done as that is what the stages of grief basically look like.

One thing I will say I didn’t like about Guardians 3, that seems to go against the masses, is the soundtrack. Very weak imo. Nothing will ever top the surprise bops they brought out in Guardians 1, but I feel they missed the marked on this one.

It’s a decent sound track, but nothing compares to the first.

Love hearing everyone's opinions as I value them all. Excited to finally see for myself on Tuesday to formulate my own.
Go in as best you can without expectations. We’ve all been guilty of hyping a movie and building too much in our minds that causes it to never be able to live up to it. You’ve read a lot of positive stuff about it here, so don’t get too excited. Really excited to hear your thoughts, as your opinions in this thread are some of my favorite to read.

Really enjoyed it, so did my wife and 13yo son. Better than all of the recent stuff and definitely Guardians 2. Could have been a little shorter.

Only things I really disliked was it getting hyped up that someone isn't making it out alive and that not happening and Warlock being almost a throw away character that comes off as a low rate Vision. The problem with his character is he was so tied to the Infinity Stones in the comics and that story has already been told. Should have tried to introduce someone else.

I think they forgot they were supposed to have Warlock in the movie honestly lol. Then thought “Oh crap we teased this character in Vol. 2!”

I liked Adam Warlock in this but I went in with low expectations of him knowing that High Evolutionary was the main villain. But I also agree that he felt wasted after that incredible post-credits reveal in Vol. 2… I really thought they were introducing him so that he could be a major player in Infinity War.

Does GotG have any of the excessive dumbassery that L&T had? Is it anything like that at all?

I feel like James Gunn had larger plans for him that would have gone into Vol. 4 but as it is right now, Gunn played it safe by leaving his role in this movie and the MCU ambiguous enough for Feige to either utilize him in a more meaningful way in the future or leave things as is.

Since this is James Gunn’s last Marvel film (most likely) it makes more sense to leave Warlock in a narratively open status rather than pigeon-holing Adam Warlock’s future arc, as they’ve done with Kang so far.

It’s definitely not a Taika Waititi film if that’s what you’re asking. Yes it’s got that trademark Marvel/Guardians goofiness but it’s closer to The Suicide Squad than Taika’s Thor movies.
Sweet. What I wanted to hear.

Yep. The Guardians have earned their goofiness, so I expected at least a couple moments of some character making a wrong choice that causes extra problems. But all of that is in character for them, unlike in say Quantumania, where every supposed smart character from good guys to bad guy make some of the most incredibly dumb decisions possible.
