5/11 from 3 why wouldn't he take the shots? Saying he lost the game is asinine.

No, it's actually not.

KSU was at it's best, and has been at it's best, when Nowell drives the lane and makes the other team/collapse and commit. The result is easy dunks, lay-ins, or wide open 3s. Early to mid-second half, through the height of the surge, that was largely how he was doing damage. While his 3pt percentage was high it included at least 2-3 REALLY bad shots that he made. Problem was later on, when he took the same ill-advised shots, they weren't falling (which then led to rebounds and opps for FAU).

Then late in the game, when Nowell had an open 3 (when they needed one) he passed up the shot. I was astounded he even had it as I anticipated FAU to foul. That wasted a ton of time and left KSU in the same predicament. FAU then made both FTs and the smart play for FAU would have been to (again) foul. Massoud, the NUMBER 1 GUY you want taking that shot, passes up a relatively open look to put the ball on the floor. Sadly Ish is adept at putting the ball on the floor as Robert Jones. Predictably it didn't end well.

Saying Nowell lost the game is somewhat erroneous as they wouldn't have been in the game without him. But if you look at it from the perspective he took himself out of his game for an 8-10 minute stretch, and unecessarily so, I'd say it's factual. KSU isn't a 'smart' basketball team but I have no idea what they were doing those last 8-10 minutes, and that includes Nowell.

Agree. Can you image the outrage on this board if that was TJ on the sidelines watching his favored team lose a very winnable game? But yet we have everybody singing the praises of a ‘cool’ Tang.

If someone wants to shoot 5/11 from 3 every time out sign me up
It wasn't just the couple threes he missed. There were multiple possessions down the stretch where he decided to try to be a hero where they didn't get points.

I remember two specifically, first one he dribbled the shot clock out by himself, then was forced to throw up a wild shot, then right after that he tried to take on the 7 foot Russian guy by himself and threw up a wild shot.

They finally broke their scoring drought when decided to pass.

It seemed to me like he started panicking when they got behind when all he had to do was keep running the offense and they would have been fine.

Agree.

I don't recall Nowell taking bad 3's. My issue was the offense fell 100% on him at times. I put that more on Tang. If anything his bad shots where on drives where he took pretty wild shots.

If anyone had a down performance for KSU yesterday it was Johnson. He air-balled a 12 foot jumper in the paint and also went 0-3 from the line late in the game.

I know most people are very high on Tang and K-State go forward. I take a more wait & see approach. He struck gold in Johnson and Nowell/Massoud/Sills (already on roster). With the transfer portal he's in a good spot, but it will be interesting if they become stingier on D go forward.

He had 12 assists but also had 5 turnovers. Most of these were unforced where he tried to make long spectacular passes. KSU had several chances to put FSU away.

He also had 5 steals and was the primary ball handler. Anyone that doesn't see how well he played the entire tournament is the proverbial box of rocks.

They also defended pretty well and doubled up on rebounding.

Speed is their biggest strength imo.

If shooters were the lone requirement TOE would win tourney games.
If their so good at shooting their 2 best shooters Murray went 3/11 and Sandfort 3/10 from 3 and that’s why they lost to Auburn and 7/29 total as a team

Agreed. I think he'll be fine there. However, Kevin Ollie and Hubert Davis also exist as well.

Every team under every coach has bumps. Tommy Lloyds are now. TJ has some serious offense growing pains. Nobody's program is just hire the coach and now we're great forever.

Idk when that'll be, but when rebuilding a program, making the tournament in year 1 requires a lot of luck. We certainly got some. They got some with Nowell staying and Johnson not cashing out on his heart insurance policy. Some serious stuff had to break their way. Can they do it again? We'll see

How many players did KSt have return from last year? Thinking it was like 3ish.

But in the transfer era that is a good thing for newly hired coaches.

But Tang was fortunate that the 3 guys that stayed were big time contributors in Nowell, Massoud and Sills. His story is no different that 80% of coaches today- he'll need to successfully fill roster gaps with transfer portal recruiting.

I haven't followed his story closely, but I would think K-State prospects going into preseason will depend a lot on if Keyontae Johnson returns.

Yes a one game scenario is how that went all season.

SDSU just shot 38% 2 PT and 23% 3 PT to get to the Final Four.

How did they manage to win?

Becuase they were 30 ft heaves. Instead his TEAM should have passed and moved the ball to get defense out of position and take a good shot. Maybe he takes the shot eventually, but not dribble for 28 seconds and chick it up. That is why he lost it.
