Vasectomy

Good luck! Had it done ten years ago this week. More pain meds and frozen peas needed than I expected. Error on the side of caution with exercise. Not having to use a rubber is fantastic.

I bought 3 bags of peas today. I keep hearing different things about jogging. When is it safe I wonder. Week?

Can you elaborate on what you have heard?I’m not aware of any prostate issues stemming from a vasectomy except for the cancer studies
I know several men who have got one done and all have had extra prostate procedures after. A lot of their doctors said it is because they got one done.

Ahhh ok. Well I’m not sure what “extra prostate issues” are and there really isn’t any backing that a vasectomy causes prostate issues whatever your friends may be.

I know you’re just relaying third/fourth person information but in reality there isn’t a concern for prostate risks stemming from a vasectomy that I am aware of. Granted not a urologist but still have never seen anything about it.

I think I tried after 72 hours and that was too soon. Sure it varies by person. I remember scaring myself looking up complications online. Odds are things will go well.
Best part was asking the doc dumb questions like which hole do I pee from now and if I get to keep the balls when he was done. Have lots of those.

Procedure was very painful although I think I am an outlier. After effects were not bad at all. Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

Sad but true: the shave was the worst part for me, it was like they were using a rusty 20-y.o. Remington. Then you get doused by a gallon of cold iodine. Fun times!

That being said, a couple of the anesthetic shots sucked, and when they pulled the tubes out for snipping/cauterizing it sucked even more, but I was able to hold still, which is pretty impressive because I'm a huge wimp. Dr. Wald told me I would heal well because of how still I held, and he was right.

Seriously: if I can do it, you can do it too! Big shoutout to Dr. Wald at UIHC.

Had one done 35 years ago, initially had an infection; had antibiotic infusion, it cleared it. No problems since.

EDIT: Doc said mowing lawn next day was not good idea, probably caused infection.

Didn’t they mow the lawn for you?
Well, I was speaking of my backyard not my crotch, the nurse that took care of my crotch I think did OK.

On a more productive note, I did find myself single in my fifties and early sixties. Found lots of ways to fit in the line "I can't get you pregnant", which turned productive a lot.

Sounds like your anesthetic didn't work.

It would only cost me $150 to cancel at this point.

The worst pain I had was day 5+ when I started walking around when I returned to work as I walk around a lot. I had my procedure done on a Thursday morning and iced for 4 days in my recliner. The first few days back at work I was so sore when I got home after walking around and had to ice down.

It was not nearly as painful of expirience as I thought it would be. The recovery is quick and if you don't push it too soon should be back to normal activity in about a week to 10 days.

Post op report from the comfort of my couch watching march madness:

Highly recommend the doc I had. Dm me if you are in DM area for details if you need snipped.

No knife, no needle, no joke.

ZERO pain. Blood draw hurts worse.

@FriendlySpartan no cancer mentioned. Just a decent sized spermatocele. As an aside, he mentioned I have an abnormally large scrotum. As my resident CF doc I thought you should be aware.

Would have preferred something else being abnormally large, but I'll take what I can get.

Just error on the side of caution. I lifted too much weight too soon after mine and it really made the ach go a little longer than it should have. That was the biggest issue with mine. Didn't really ice that much and didn't have crazy pain.
