That being said, it was a pretty interesting couple of first practice sessions. It certainly would be nice if Aston Martin can keep up a pace to keep them towards the front.

Obligatory AI "we talkin' bout practice man" GIF, and I want to see what happens in qualifying, but if they can stay toward the top that would have to be about the biggest year over year improvement by a team in forever right?

I don't know the history that much, so I can't say for sure. And yes, it's practice, I'm sure the top teams are holding back, especially in the first race. I don't expect Aston to be the team to beat by any stretch, but if they can find a way to squeak into the top 6, it would certainly be quite an improvement.

I'm always a bit hopeful that we'll see more teams than 2 or 3 actually competing for race wins.

I can't wait for tomorrow morning to see who's actually got some pace in their cars. Normally FP2 is when they're running qualifying simulation so Alonso being as fast as he's been has been really surprising. I just have a hard time believing that Aston Martin is really that fast but we'll find out for sure in the morning.

The other big surprise is Hulkenburg sitting at 5th in front of both of the Mercedes cars by a lot.

The field, particularly in the midfield, is so much closer together this year it would seem. It's going to make for some incredible racing and I cant wait! It'd be wild if Max/Alonso P1/P2 in qualifying. Not sure there is enough room on the front row for the egos of those two ******** haha but I'd love to see them go at it down into turn one. There would be some fireworks for sure!

I think Red Bull still probably wins this thing but man an actually crowded midfield could actually help them as points behind them could get spread around, but some real competition in the middle would be pretty exciting.

Happy for Hulkenburg as well, I can't help I it have a huge soft spot for Haas because of Guenter.

Red Bull is definitely the team to beat until somebody proves otherwise. On the other end of the grid Williams is still a shitbox. Everything between that seems wide open.

Maybe I’m over playing it. But i REALLY think Haas can compete this year in the mid field. Lotta new drivers and new teams. I think they can go as high as 6th.

IMO, the only locks for the back are Williams and probably Alpha Tauri. I think 2-8 is a crap shoot at this point.

I think the cost cap is still going to level things off more and more for the next few years.

Yeah Williams had some good testing but i think it’s going to be the same old Williams, which is a shame given how historic that team is.
I don’t expect much fro Alpha Tauri either, I’m really curious to see how Alfa Romero turns out can Zhou make the next step and are their reliability problems solved?
McLaren are in for a ROUGH season if their issues persist like it was in testing

I still think the rumors end up being true and at some point in the next couple years Red Bull sells off AT. I think they’ve established themselves at the top enough they don’t need a direct feeder for drivers. They can pick almost any driver they want from the middle of the pack. It seems like a wasted team because they’ll never have the support RB does.

I think you’re right about McLaren but I want to see Lando do well. He seems like a good chap.

I’d like to see Williams take a jump with the new ownership and new leadership but they’ve got a long road.

Some definite sandbagging in practice, and it turns out Max is still fast. He’s unreal.

I don’t wonder if that’s Andretti’s in with AT potentially being sold. Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire especially with Horner.

McLaren is in trouble this year. Landon shouldn’t have signed that long contract. Money talks though.
