Based on the timing, I can only guess he was doing (or attempting) someone she shouldn't have. You don't fire someone this close to the season without major personal issues within the department

They made the tournament back in '21 as a 16 seed, and then the university promptly announced they were going down to Division II, IIRC. Hard not to think his resignation is related to that.
