The part that I find interesting in the couple Husker & national podcasts is people pushing the Campbell to Husker narrative know very little about Campbell as a coach and what has driven his success at ISU.

For example one Husker talking head was excited that Campbell is an OL coach and will rebuild the Huskers OL dominance.

The reality seems to me Campbell would build a program in the mold of Iowa or Wisconsin- not Ohio State.

Where they are right, Campbell would get right the culture at Nebraska. But that could be a painful first couple years with a lot of current player attrition.

Pretty much this. I honestly believed Campbell was going to be at ISU for a long time as long as he was successful, that he wasn’t going to be pulled away easily, but when he wouldn’t even take interviews for Michigan St, USC(? - was that real?), Detroit Lions, and other places… well, how can I not think he wants to stay at ISU regardless of what the national media and rival fans have convinced themselves is going to happen.

Campbell has certainly turned down some interesting offers, but he has yet to be heavily pursued by a first-tier "dream job" that is an obvious fit for who he is as a man and as a coach.

Those would be the blue-blooded college programs in the Midwest (and likely only Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and maybe Penn State if you can stretch the "Midwest" into central Pennsylvania) or an NFL job at a well-run organization (respected owner, GM, etc.) with a good quarterback. An example might be something like Kansas City once Andy Reid retires with Patrick Mahomes slingin' it like he is.

I am not going to call Campbell an Iowa State lifer until he turns one of those down.

Until then, I am going to enjoy the ride and look forward to one of the young up-and-comers on the staff, most likely Tom Manning, taking over for Campbell when he might finally move on from Ames.

Not exactly sure.
He did say "consistently well".

Consistently well, ISU churns our nerdy engineers, drinks Busch Lite, and generally avoids stepping on the Zodiac.
I used to step on that damn thing in college, it did nothing. Now I walk around it so people just know I went there. My wife always walks on it and rolls her eyes at those who don't.

I did say generally. There are a few degenerates that don't care about tradition.

Kyle Kempt seems to be very actively involved on the sideline. It's way too early to speculate (about 10 years too early) but maybe ISU is finally crafting a coach that is "one-of-our-own". Dear Kyle - Please don't turn into Scott Frost.

To the bolded above, every single time CMC has been brought up for "x" school, their fans and the national media fail to understand what makes CMC tick. Do us Cyclone fans know? Well, not 100%, no, but we're going on our 7th year with him as our head coach and he's only shown us commitment to the program.

Ummmm - Campbell is or was an offensive line coach.

Campbell then went back to Bowling Green for two years, first as offensive line coach (2007) and then as offensive line coach/run game coordinator (2008). The University of Toledo hired him as the run game coordinator for the 2009 season.

So - I mean, they're not entirely wrong. Our head coach and our OC 's backgrounds are both coaching the offensive line. Which is one of the reasons I imagine Campbell gets asked so much about the offensive line. I'm sure he would anyways as the head coach but - since that is his background I imagine that factors into at least a few of the questions regarding that position

Nebraska reminds me a bit of Indiana basketball fans. They think they still move the needle in college sports when in truth they are largely irrelevant outside of their own heads.

What is that suppose to mean? I don't think Campbell and Prohm are anything alike. Campbell built this program, Prohm was handed the keys to a sports car and told not to crash it.

I think he's saying that good times can come to a crashing halt, so enjoy things while they're good.
It's not quite "it's all over," but he's doomsday prepping.

The Huskers would have been favored in each game against your team during the last 5 years. lol

I don't want your coach. He's not ready for major cfb
Utter nonsense. How old are you? Your school traded their football legacy for Big Ten money and the promise of being a conference doormat forever. Eventually your stadium will only be half full for kickoffs and empty by the fourth quarter. But hey, the ladies volleyball team is darn good.

Prohm did a decent job of not crashing that sports car for a couple of years. However, he didn't schedule its preventative maintenance, subsequently traded it in for an old Jetta and rammed that sucker right through the garage door.

Something less serious.

Was texting a Nebraska buddy asking him if he was going to apply for the coach job. He's a good guy, taught me to like volleyball. He replied that there might be good duck hunting in Nebraska soon as the weather is mild with no sign of Frost. Like I said, he's a good guy. Only Husker grads I know are civil engineers and all were good dudes.

Think of the Prohm tenure as a 24-hour endurance race chopped up into 4-hour blocks.

0:00 -- 4:00 = off to a good start... no problems with the car and running with the leaders
4:00 -- 8:00 = still running fine... finds some pace in the 8th hour and briefly leads the race
8:00 -- 12:00 = car involved in a few minor altercations, falls back for repairs but back out now
12:00 -- 16:00 = 13th and 14th hours look great, back up to the front, but suffers a crash around 16:00
16:00 -- 20:00 = car still out there running, mostly limping along, but slipping back in the order
20:00 -- 24:00 = crashes with about four hours left, sits on the side of the circuit smoldering the rest the race

Prohm was no Carroll Shelby and Rasir Bolton was no Ken Miles.
