I did a little research on the scarlet man and here’s what I found.

It’s January 1998. @Scarlet Twister is celebrating Nebraska’s national title* by watching the premier of Dawson’s Creek at a friend’s house. He puts on his Husker starter jacket, hops in his Mercury Tracer and takes off for the friend’s house during a blizzard. While switching out his Celine Dion CD for his Hanson one is his car discman with tape adapter, he loses control of the vehicle and gets stuck in a ditch. He’s frozen in time there until just recently. Scott Frost isn’t the QB, he’s now the coach! “I’m sure the Huskers have rattled off at least a dozen titles since I’ve been away” he says. He turns on the TV and watches his team lose to Northwestern (what????) in Ireland (whaaaatttt?). Two weeks later they lose at home to Georgia Southern and the legend of Scott Frost is no more.

Looking for a new coach he stumbles upon an article saying Iowa State has a good coach and the Huskers might want him. Researching it a little further he finds himself on this wonderful site. Not believing that the Huskers could possibly be as bad as they really are and the Cyclones could be as good as they really are, he fires up an old computer in the Fairbury library and graces us with his presence to set the record straight.

Hello @Scarlet Twister! Welcome to 2022!

Saw a comment on the Twitter about Nebraska being a sleeping giant with all the cash they have

Have they looked at the checks the rest of their league is getting too?

Some perspective here.

Other than some random trolls on Twitter and some amateur “journalists” there is absolutely no one talking about legitimate candidates for this job. No one.

In todays age where any social media post from any source can spread across the country in a second this is going to happen literally every time an opening comes up. For gods sake - there were people tying CMC to the TCU job last year.

When ND opened up, you started to hear things from legit media sources and from within the program that know that was intriguing to Matt.

This is pure speculation from completely unreliable sources. It would be no different than any of us posting $hit on Twitter about who we wanted as our coach if/when CMC finally does leave.

Some fanboys/girls sitting in an Applebees in Lincoln speculating about who would be a good coach is not necessary “smoke”.

Matt does not have an agent and won’t talk to anyone until December. That is a known fact. Until then, I think we all just need to get used to CMC being “linked” to every job opening in football because that is the times we live in with social media.
The "mutual interest" angle in Dodd's column is absolute bullshite.

So Frost gets canned on Sunday, then Dodd's article is literally out hours later saying there's mutual interest. In that short time, Campbell was contacted and expressed interest? Highly doubtful.

Dodd's sources are Nebraska shills who assume that Campbell would take the job because of their delusions about Nebraska football and where ISU is currently. So of course they assume he'll be interested.

Maybe it's a smokescreen to distract from their real targets, I don't know. But after a Summer of realignment crap, this the last thing I wanted as a distraction to what I think will be a surprisingly good season for us.

Not exactly sure.
The sooner programs like Nebraska figure out that money doesn't fix the problems the better off they will be. This is the problem at Texas too. Everyone is ball washing Sark because they played Bama tough but that had more to do with Bamas performance than Texas being "back".
Or sark having coached there recently.

If they offered Campbell a 10 year 100 million contract, which Nebraska has the donors to pull off

We should offer Jon Heacock 5 million for the HC

Trev wanted to let him go after last year. Osborne intervened and requested another year. Why they thought making him dump some assistants and replacing them with new guys that had less than a year to come up to speed be a successful idea just gives you insight into the dysfunction in Lincoln.
I said TO was their problem. He has messed stuff up to hold his legacy hard.

They had Solich change co-ordinators and coaches before he was fired, and Pelini had to change coaches before he was fired. I sure want a job where I am second guessed my every move. And T.O. Is a pr1ck.:confused:

And Texas constantly playing to their level of competition.

Nebraska really needs to get back to, and improve upon, the stuff that made them a great team in the past. They need better plausible deniability and super steroids.
What made them great in the past was
1. Being in the Big 8 conference with foil for a rival.
2. Being able to stockpile scholarships to keep kids from going to rival schools.
3. Depending on prop 48 students.

You can't go back to those days any more. That ship has sailed long time ago.

Honestly, his quote posted earlier about being concerned about how college football is going and less focus on developing young men makes me feel even better (to note, as I’ve already said multiple times in this thread, I’ve never for a heartbeat thought he’d leave for Nebraska). While everyone has a part to blame, Nebraska is in one or two conferences that have done the most damage to what Campbell cares most about in regards to the job. They’re the conferences most aggressively working to make this just another professional league. I don’t think he would want any part in that unless either it’s a dream school opening or we’ve gotten to the point where other college teams don’t exist outside of those conferences.

They have money and a desire/willingness to spend it. I think they are a threat to hire MC. I thought I read they were top 10 nationwide with money to spend, whatever that means.

You forgot unequal revenue sharing, a lack of drug testing for steroids, and not just depending on prop 48.......they had no limit. Iowa State could have two per year.

Wait so a team that’s gone 4-8 the last 5 years would have been favored over an 8-5 team? Let me know where you bet. I want in on that action.
I found a simulator in which you can select teams from different years (or the same year) and see what the line would’ve been on a neutral field. Obviously it’s all moot because none of the games happened, plus they only take in account the stats of the year, not the overall records. Here’s how since 2017 would’ve shaken up.

2017 : ISU (-20.5) 94%
2018 : ISU (-7.5) 74%
2019 : ISU (-4.5) 65%
2020 : ISU (-29) 99%
2021 : ISU (-3.5) 61%
2022 : ISU (-4) 62%

Again, none of this matters, because we’d only have seen Nebraska in a bowl game, but even that would’ve been impossible because they literally couldn’t make one.

This looks about right, although 2022 is going to widen by a lot. Probably ISU -14 by the end of the season.
