How bad is Ed Podolak? Basically makes Gary Dolphin do play by play and color, basically everything, and Ed just clams up and makes random comments that dont help the listener much at all.

Not exactly sure.

Watching the posted playback that shows them, I'm not sure what he is looking at. Dolph is looking to the end of the field and Eddie is looking straight down. Wonder if there is a chesty woman that he's trying to look down the shirt of again.

And Gary has to que him…. Reaches back and touches his shoulder. Ed was leaning in , back, touching the right side of his face and mustache all 12 minutes of that drive. A very uncomfortable man… feeling vulnerable.

Probably waiting for the game to be over so he can do a few shots.

Iowa State, of course, needed the TD to take the lead. But to suck basically 3/4 of a quarter in time off the clock is the HUGE deal with it.

PS - Over 4 hours later, I realize my bad math. Make that almost 80%

After ripping the ball and their hearts out on the 1 yard line. What a sequence of misery for those bastards.

Couple comments:

1. I rewatched most of the game. After listening to Bruns I watched the line play again. Holy hell Trevor Downing was kicking everyone’s ass like a ninja out there. That guy is an NFL player. Just a dominating performance.

2. Less flashy but I thought Simmons played real well too. Lot of good blocks.

3. Man Hutch is good, we all know it, but he is an elite player. I can’t remember the last time I remember a receiver dominating a game like that.

4. It’s a miracle this wasn’t like 35 to 3. This was a fluke it was close at all. We dominated this game. Manhandled them on both sides of the line. Iowa has huge problems. Not sure how many games they can win.

5. Wil MC stat line was quiet but he was giving them fits.

6. Just an amazing effort from several guys on that goal line fumble.

This team really played their asses off and should have been rewarded with a total ass kicking win in the scoreboard. Really great job not to buckle from all the bulk shut in that game.

I don’t know, if we can get the punt team figured out, it’s going to be tough to beat these guys.

If Iowa State's fumble, interceptions and blocked punts were flukes we have to assume that Iowa's fumbles and interception were flukes as well. We can't really discount Iowa State's miscues and not do the same for Iowa's.

Just the whole thing.....they were inches away from going up 14-3 and the game being essentially over.

12 game minutes of superb execution later, they had a gassed defense and their hopes rested with a struggling offense.
It was just like our game at Oklahoma in 2017 when Lanning recovered a fumble just as Oklahoma going into the end zone to put the game away. Then we drove the entire length of the field for a touchdown and 2point conversion to set up the turning point of the Matt Campbell era.

My only point on this is iirc all of Iowa's miscues followed or were basically in succession to ISU's turnovers/special teams miscues. So if ISU doesn't screw it up, Iowa doesn't have a chance to begin with.

But otherwise yeah, it was a super complicated game and aside from 'the drive' it's time to move along.

Iowa's defense, while very tough, is very thin. And because of that, they don't rotate players in and out like we do to stay fresh. The result was a 99.5 yard 4th quarter drive.

If their offense continues to suck and they keep losing the time of possession battle, their "elite" defense will melt over the long season.

Sure we can. This is a message board. Who cares.
Touche'

I should have said we can't reasonably discount ISU's miscues and not discount Iowa's.

But @madguy makes a good point about the timing of the turnovers. Iowa's prevented short field scores that were set up with ISU's turnovers. Without the ISU screwups Iowa isn't in that favorable position and with their lame offense they likely aren't getting there very often either. I can get on board with that line of thinking.

ISU under Campbell has consistently made more (and dumber) mistakes against Iowa than they do in Big 12 play. Iowa has played with fire in terms of mistakes against us and gotten lucky. In 2019 we dropped at least 3 gift wrapped Nate Stanley picks.

I think it bodes extremely well that we racked up that many yards against what's probably the best defense we will play.
