B12 Tournament - 2024

For those of us who attend both, that’s an awful lot of time in KC and lots more hotel $. Only saw the article here on CF, and didn’t read about two separate tournament schedules in the same arena. Yuck.
I agree with this and also will miss the KC Municipal Auditorium. I love old stadiums and it is a great venue (at least to me).

Absolutely. Close to the action and you feel like you're part of everything going on. Easy to watch people and find friends, AND to see faces of players, coaches and officials.

It would have kept both tournaments together chronologically if they would have had them split between Muni and T-Mobile as in the past but then put all of the semi-finals and finals in T-Mobile.

Even if Kansas City officials made the request (and I highly doubt that), the Big 12 isn't going to throw the host city under the bus in a press release touting an extension.

Municipal's size (9,000) is perfectly fine for WBB. The problems/complaints are mostly regarding back-of-house items, and those aren't easy fixes for an 85+ year old building.

They're going to gain amenities at the cost of atmosphere and attendance. The idealists ("we need equality!") will be left scratching their heads while the realists -- and those of us who have seen this happen before -- just nod knowingly.

Maybe they are trying it just while there are 14 teams. One thing it might do is raise attendance for the WBB final. It had some of its best attendance when the final was Saturday night after the men’s semifinals maintinee.

Now fans coming in for the mens, might come a night or two early, especially if their school makes the semifinals and definitely if they make the finals.

They even had a make-your-own taco bar during the WBB tournament that was fantastic. Nothing like that at the Sprint/T-Mobile Center.

Plus Municipal took cash as payment.

For those like myself wondering…here is the link to the announcement. Surprised it wasn’t included in other press announcements.

I’m like many others. I have attended the tournament at all the sites used over the past 25 years. Dallas by far sucked the most. Pro stadiums cram you into tight spaces that have no knee room and narrower seats. Much of the tourney will look like a ghost town at T-Mobile.

Plus, wbb has traditionally been much cheaper for tournament tickets. What does this do to ticket prices which have been much more “family friendly” than Sprint/T-Mobile Center, which needs to pay for staff at every floor and concession level regardless of actual audience size?

Single-session prices for the 2019 tournament at Chesapeake Energy Arena (OKC Thunder home) were $12/$20/$25.

That'd be $125 max for the whole tournament, compared to $90 at Municipal in 2022.

Maybe they are trying it just while there are 14 teams.

It smells like an easy setup/transition for the upcoming 12-team format.

Simply take out the first day of each tournament (when 11-14 play), and you end up with WBB on Fri-Sat, Mon-Tue and MBB on Wed-Sat.

One positive for WBB fans is lodging will be more accessible and, possibly, cheaper.
Housing for women will be farther away and also farther from many of the traditional bars like Quaffs. It’s going to impact quite a few of those places that are literally a 1-2 block walk.

See they are splitting the MBB & WBB Tournaments again - but both in KC. Appears to be so the WBB is played in T-Mobile also. I TOTALLY disagree with this move, first because it makes most fans choose between the two tournaments - they do not have the resources to be in KC that long to stay for both tournaments. Secondly it will reduce the attendance at the WBB tournament and the games will look baron in T-Mobile with 2-3 thousand in a 20 thousand seat arena. Also means a long layoff for the WBB teams before the NCAA games.
what are there like maybeeeee 500 fans that actually go to both tournaments when they're both there at same time? lol who cares? sucks for you if you're one of those 200. but you are in the extreme minority. there's just not a ton of hardcore men's and women's fans that would actually spend time and money to go to both tournaments even if they're both there at same time.

women want their equality? let them have KC to themselves! enjoy the even more empty arenas.

I agree with the first part….the second just doesn’t make any sense at all.

Have you actually counted or asked for accurate numbers from the AD? Or are you just attempting to prove your worth as a MBB-only fan?
