Way Too Early Cyclone 2023 Draft Prospects

Still think it depends on position. I remember Brandon Weeden getting drafted in the 1st at age 28 a decade ago.

I do agree for RB it makes a big deal. That’s why if J Brock has a good year for us this year, he shouldn’t hesitate to leave as soon as possible.

Iowa State had their most talented team of all time get 4 players drafted. Unless someone really makes a huge jump I would bet 2 at the most next year barring injuries. McDonald and maybe one other.

McDonald will be 24 by the time he plays a snap in the NFL... He is not likely to go round 1.

Outside of Dekkers having an INSANE year. I don't see a first round player on the roster. We don't have that when young, athletic freaks at QB, WR, DL, and CB.

I do think there are A LOT of NFL guys on the roster though. Highest odds to make the first round would probably be JJ Kohl, and he has yet to play his senior year of high school. The streak will go on for awhile...

2023 NFL Draft:
OL - Downing will be a day 3, with day 2 upside. Hufford playing guard could get a look. Dark horse is Remsburg
RB - Brock could go Day 3 with a MASSIVE year
QB - ISU has a dream season if Dekkers go to the NFL in 2023. Not likely
TE - Low prob
WR - Hutch has day 2 upside, likely day 3 without more speed

DL - McDonald late round 2 and Lee late day 3
LB - low prob
CB - low prob
S - AJ Jr. - Day 3 age being the biggest restraint
TJ Tampa distinctly counts as an athletic freak at corner. His dad was laughing on Twitter at one of the top corner’s pro day numbers.

For that matter, Darien Porter practically matches Sauce Gardner’s physical profile. If anything, he’s probably even faster.

That said, both of them have a long way to go—especially Porter. Which (along with Dekkers and Jirehl) is why I didn’t list non-seniors in the OP.

If Peterson retires, CB. Ditto for Harrison Smith.

Replacing Bradbury will probably be the only OL need by then.

WR, then Edge.
I don't think they'll need a QB. Corner and interior o-line will be huge needs.
Peterson is on a one year deal. We'll see how Booth does. Even so, corner will still be a big need. Safety should be good with Cine there. Bynum could end up being decent. Center will be a need most likely. Another WR would be great.

I was once high on Hutchinson's Draft stock. I just don't know how I feel about it now, with him coming back. If he was good enough to go, it seems like he would've gone by now. Not sure what it is he's lacking that scouts are looking for. If I had to guess, maybe top end speed and vertical, but again, I am guessing. Don't really know how he'd measure in those areas.
I think the reasoning was the WR pool was historically deep this year.

Most talented and experienced. But I think this years team is even more talented, just not as experienced and has a lot of prove. CMC has definitely has the team trending the right direction every year. Last years season was a bit of a let down, but this year they can have very similar results again in a “down year”.

That's extraordinarily premature, but I will say I'm really high on Dekkers' upside. He's got the tools to be 1st round (size, speed, arm strength). We'll see how he develops. I mean, Park had great tools also, so. . . you never really know how this stuff will shake out over a career.

Had not heard this before. What is 'hefty'?

I don’t see Vance getting drafted. But a good UFA for sure. Downing and Johnson maybe? But pretty borderline at this point. They’ll need an Enyi type of jump their senior seasons.

I do think Reeder is a sleeper, though age may be a big issue (he’ll be 26 in 2023!!)

X and Will I see getting drafted for sure.
tough for me to say anyone from ISU is a getting drafted for sure after watching Lazard go undrafted. We as clone fans (self included) tend to overestimate the draft-ability of our players.

McDonald is about to crush Von Miller’s all time big 12 sack record. He’s an explosive athlete with the same size as Miller, Kayvon Thibodeaux, and other players at the edge position. He’s a first rounder all the way.

The only one I'm counting on is McDonald. Hutchinson I'd say less than 50% chance. He's not what the modern NFL looks for in a receiver.

Everyone else would need to have a surprising breakout year.

I'm going to have to see it to believe an O-lineman gets drafted. Feels like it's been 10 years. Have we had one in the Campbell era?

Thibodeaux is 6'4 260. McDonald is 6'4 245. If McDonald can put on 10-15 lbs of good weight and maintain, and show he is also consistently good against the run then he would probably be a first rounder.

Hutchinson is faster than you think. I think Dekkers arm is going to do wonders for Hutchinson's draft profile. He's tall and he doesn't draft anything. If he shows some speed, he's an easy draft pick.

Purdue's Bell was probably Cleveland's best draft pick. His size and speed is similar to X. Agree, they don't have the ideal WR traits, but they can play in th NFL.

I think that trend has moved though. Breece, Enyi, Kolar and Purdy went all about as we predicted.

The only one we were wrong on this year was Rose. But that happens sometimes. If a guy is projected in the 5th/6th round, there’s a fairly decent chance he may slip into being undrafted. For every Rose and Lazard, there’s also a Kene where he gets picked way higher than we expect.

For the record David Ojabo (who would’ve been a 1st rounder before getting hurt in pre draft workouts) is 6’4, 250.

I’d say if Will crosses the 250 mark, he’s good. Also, I think KT is more 255.
