Tyrese Hunter Entering the Transfer Portal - NIL Speculation

I will never understand how anyone could conceive it's "selfish" for him to want to get paid for his services/skillset. College basketball is a business; it always has been except now it's legal.

This is a complete hypothetical as we don't know the exact NIL opportunities at ISU/Kansas for Hunter right now, but imagine if your business paid you $100K and a direct competitor offered you $500K. You're turning down 5x as much money if you only plan on being in that business for one more year? It's okay if you would; maybe you like your coworkers at your $100K job or you like the culture/atmosphere or maybe you're fine financially so that extra $400K doesn't make a difference. But to say someone is disloyal for taking more money when others (coaches, your AAU teammates, your peers) are already getting paid in that business, that's honestly a bit naive to me.

Once again, I don't see any harm in disliking that he's leaving ISU, but be honest and admit that it too is for entirely selfish reasons yourself. We are all ISU fans. If he was leaving Wake Forest for Duke, no one in this thread would care at all.

This is all coming at the exact same time when ISU fans are desperately hoping for AJ Green to transfer here from a "lesser" rival. Now we don't play UNI anymore in basketball, but the hypocrisy is pretty striking and I think what irks me most.
Get off your high horse

If AJ came here and we somehow got matched up playing UNI in Cedar Falls I would expect for UNI fans to boo the absolute **** out of him.

Daughter said when Iowa came to Hilton that the students tore into Fuerenbach pretty heavily. Said the parents were getting mad. What do you expect when you go to a rival?

I don’t think he’s a bad kid, but he obviously doesn’t know much about loyalty. If it’s about the money, it’s fairly selfish. Sorry. If it’s something else(maybe didn’t like TJ?) then we should know about that.

It's a job. Of course it's about the money.
That said, I still hate Kansas.
Kansas must be destroyed.

People need to realize that just because he was a great defender here doesn't mean he will be wherever he lands. So much of that can be coach-driven. Maybe he doesn't actually like to play defense and that's part of the reason he's transferring.
I don’t know if anyone remembers, but one of the biggest things people talked about when he was being recruited was his toughness and competitiveness.

IDk why people think Hunter getting booed is a bad look. It's college sports. Now, if there are older fans making personal comments or attacks, that's one thing but a coordinated effort from the student section is just part of the fun of college sports. Think Marcus Smart flop type of stuff. He totally deserves some flack but it doesn't have to be ruthless.

That student section flop was actually a classic! No profanity or anything but it just summarized him up perfectly probably the funniest thing I've seen by Cyclone Alley as a group.

Tyrese is a very good player. But I wonder how adding him would impact the return of current roster players: Harris, Yesufu & Petttiford. All are 6'1" or under (same as Hunter). I could maybe see Self playing two 6'1" guards if one of those guards was a great 3 point shooter, but that is betting on improvement over 21/22.

Hunter 37-135 (27%)
Harris 20-62 (32%)
Yesufu 11-42 (26%)
Pettiford 0-3 (0%)

Obviously, Self is a good coach. But if I was one of KU's current guards I might be looking elsewhere. But who knows, maybe that is why Hunter hasn't announced. Waiting until after the May 1 deadline to announce so current KU players can't transfer w/o sitting out 2022/23 season.

And I'm guessing most 18-22 year old kids do not care whatsoever about the "rivalry" between ISU and Kansas unless they grow up an ISU fan. I'm assuming it would not make the list of top 50 or 75 rivalries in college basketball in a poll of CBB fans. ISU fans dislike KU more than KU thinks about us; it sucks, but it's true. The Prohm down years had a real negative impact on the meaningfulness of those games. Hopefully TJ can bring it back to where it was from 2013-17.

I think you are forgetting about 4 words in our own school fight song that are the biggest reason people are rightfully upset: Loyal sons. Forever true.
