I agree that NIL will force most Athletic Departments (like ISU) go-forward to prioritize NIL funding vs. salaries or facilities. But I think the decision making goes higher than Athletic Directors with University Presidents deciding how their school approaches NIL funding.

Same goes with push to classify student-athletes as employees. Some schools might feel that goes too far from a liability and compensation for other student/grad student employees.

I wonder if NIL can be used for benefit. Could you have a situation where there is multi year contract signed that could then prevent this sort of tampering? If an athlete were under contract with a booster program and another booster program offered more money, that would be handled in court rather than relying on NCAA rules.

I would pay $500 right now via Venmo if guaranteed Hunter would play at Iowa State next year and I’m not rich by any means. I’m guessing we could could find $750,000 in just a few days. However, that in and of itself, opens up a whole new can of worms.
Yes, but you would have to keep on doing this every year, which is the problem.

I have never seen one realistic way for student-athletes to become employees (where the money comes directly from the school) AND be in compliant of Title IX. It’s literally not feasible.

You have some members of Congress pushing the idea. There are groups talking about unionizing college athletes.

I agree, it would turn the current college athletics model upside down. As you allude there is no way a school like ISU could equally pay its 400 men's & women's student athletes. But it goes beyond pay. Liability issues would huge. Think about the NFL concussion payments. Do college presidents want that type of liability? How about lifetime medical costs for injured athletes?

Thats why I think university Presidents will have to decide how important are college athletics to achieving their core mission and maintaining strong alumni support.

Could school's spin-off their athletic departments or maybe just FB & MBB to avoid Title IX compliance?

I’m not blaming him at all. I just have an issue with the system that is currently in place.
What is wrong with the system?

My only issue is that unlike the professional leagues, there are no rules. That works okay in the short term, and is a boon for current players. But would there be as much money to be made by players if those leagues had no salary caps, no free agency rules etc?

However this shakes out the NIL is gonna hurt a lot of schools.
THIS. Regardless of what happens with Tyrese, this is just the tip of the iceberg of what is coming. This will become a worse problem than the transfer portal in no time. It really could be the end of college athletics. It absolutely sucks and becomes nearly unwatchable.
