you're right but Greg's situation is insanely unique. He not only got a job a very good mid major with stronger support (the NCAA can prove just how strong)than the majority of p6 schools, they play in a sports crazy city, had an NBA style arena, his under the radar son blew up to the NPOY, they moved up to a p6 conference...I think Greg can coach and he's proven himself the last 7 or 8 years but it's hard to imagine the stars aligning any more for someone than they did for him.I'd say McDermott is having some success now in a Power conference.
Prohm seems to fit the mold similar to McDermott. Great with the mid majors where guard play is the stronger focus, but not cut out for the power conferences.
Good for him, and hopefully he can repeat the success he had with them previously.

He doesn't have those two years. Murray's top 7 from this year are gone.Probably will work well for 2 years until he has to rely on his own players.
I held an irrational grudge against McDermott after he left. There was no reason for it, the guy was first class all the way and had some bad luck. I was tired of losing, I guess. But life's too short...if someone does the job with class and dignity, he has my support wherever he goes.Would be great if he gets to go back there again. I have no ill will towards Steve or McDermott like some here seem to have. Both are class act guys that represented ISU well and run clean programs. It's unfortunate that both could never have the success at ISU that we had hoped they would have but we've already seen with McDermott and Creighton and his previous stop at UNI that Greg is a good coach and that sometimes guys like him and Steve may not be a good fit at a place like ISU but at another school their system works and they can be successful.
I support both guys while they were here, I was glad for Greg when he took the Creighton job as the writing was on the wall he was probably going to get fired here and I knew we had no choice but to fire Steve after last year's mess too. So far it's worked out well for Greg and ISU with TJ now and I hope that Steve gets to have his success story at his next job wherever that may be.
I did not say it was THT's fault. That kid did what he had to do to make the league and I don't blame him one bit. It's Prohm's fault for not following up that recruiting class with another good one. And not doing well enough in the portal to replace THT. Everyone knew he was likely gone after that Maui tournament. So it's THT's fault? That's awfully creative. I don't think this is the place to rehash everything, that's been done over and over. But that one is certainly a new angle

He's got to rebuild that roster immediately.
Good for him. Hope it works out.
I'd guess Murray is really tired of being a stepping stone job for coaches. Any time they have a little success, the coach leaves. Prohm would end that cycle. He's seen P5 ball and he's not going to leave them for pretty much any job.
That said, he's going to have to be a lot better at roster management than he was at ISU. He was completely derailed by a one and done. With the transfer portal, you have to expect that your best players at that level are there for one good year. He's going to have to rebuild every season and that wasn't exactly his strong suit at ISU.

You posted making fun of people who are interested in this news, then did the decent thing and wished him well, then deleted that, and now you're back to making fun of people.
He went 29-6 (15-0) in 2015 in a one bid league his last year. Won nearly 80% of his games at Murray State. He made 1 NCAA tournament there with another coaches team. He had two NBA guards in that league and couldnt make the tournament.
The negotiation was done at the signing of the contract, correct? Negotiation at the end would aim to be mutually beneficial if that occurred.I know its part of the contract and he deserves to take it, but wouldn't you feel like a pile of crap negotiating a severance after a complete failure?
Murray State and every other mid major that has nice players.Murray state will get worked in the new system. He will identify a player they prove their salt then go to Kentucky.
But there’s a difference between reading a thread for entertainment and posting that you don’t care. Why do you think we need to know whether you care about a topic?but if i did that id miss all this stupid sh*t and its GOLD!
He makes right at $2 milhe kind of gets paid like one though. Isn‘t he around $1 million a year? That’s low for a power conf.
