Agree.

Based on this year, we haven’t seen much small-ball mismatch by this staff. He’s not playing the defense we want against Big 12 3s.

With Green on staff, they’ll know exactly whether Carter fits with what we do on the floor and what we want in the lockerroom.
Unless we change defensive philosophy, which I highly doubt, whoever we get needs to be somewhat capable of switching all 5 spots. We try to negate that some with traps and rotations, but we demand a lot on defense. That’s one thing that makes TT so tough, size, strength and they switch everything.

What is your take on AJ Green? Some smoke/rumors he is interested in transferring to Iowa State to play for his Dad.
We're basically in a holding pattern until after the NBA evaluation period and, honestly, I don't think AJ knows what he wants to do yet until he gets that feedback.

Now, obviously, on the floor he can play for any program in the country and the further away from that surgery he gets the better he's going to be. His movement and athleticism were noticeably different from January 1 on.

I'd give an ever so slight lean to him ending up in Ames. I think his NBA evaluation is going to suffer a bit because he's in a role that he won't play at the next level and I think they'll tell him that they'd like to see him play off the ball more and that is going to be more important to him than being the 2nd or 3rd all time leading scorer in Valley history.

Let's say 45% he ends up in Ames, 40% he stays in Cedar Falls and 15% that he decides to go pro at some level.

If you're going to go pro overseas, why wouldn't you play college ball for another year to further your chances at the NBA?

I'd also think it's NBA or back to college for another shot at the NBA.

And if it's the NBA as the ultimate goal playing in the Big 12 will get you more eyeballs.

Carter's only chance for a meaningful role in the P6 is to drop 30 pounds (which he won't do), improve his ballhandling in a meaningful way (which, again, he won't do) and play on the wing. He's a 5-8 minute a night guy at a decent P6.

He's 6-4. He was in the perfect role at the perfect level for his game. His dad decided he wasn't.

He plays at a level that he could make a ton of money overseas. It's not like the 80's where you go over sea and never sniff the NBA. You go sign for a million or two, play the season, come home and play the G league or they sign you to a two way contract. Stay in college makes sense if you play for Kentucky where they sign you to a Huge NIL deal.

I get that, but why not TRY another year in college to get to the NBA.

Over seas will always be there.

So be something he’s not.

I don’t know, I think his best chance is to embrace the tweener that he is, and get matched up on offense against 4s. He’s never going to be a wing at the Big 12 level imo.

Exactly.

And any offense he gives you at that spot is immediately negated by him giving up length, athleticism and quickness to whoever he's guarding.

I don't think another year in college does him any good to be honest. More eyes on him I guess if he plays for a power 6. However, the NBA knows who he is, his dad has NBA contacts since he is a high level college coach. I hope Green comes to Iowa State. That would be a rock solid player for us.

Weren't you the guy that said it was a 100% lock he was going pro in some form next year?

Two things.

1- The way the year ended. UNI won the league and he's accomplished about all you can accomplish at UNI (Three outright league titles in school history and he was POY for two of them.) Would have loved an NCAA run at UNI but you can only control what you can control.

2- Iowa State's success. I think there was a thought from a lot of people that Nov/Dec was smoke and mirrors and that with the level of the rebuild that we all thought was necessary that Iowa State wouldn't be in a position to make a deep run or have more exposure next year. That dynamic obviously got flipped on its head and there could end up being more value in playing in Ames next year than one would have thought a few months ago.

There is no way he would get million or two. More like $200K-$300K per season.

Noah Carter's dad is that family member that wishes you a facebook "happy birthday" in the comment section of an unrelated photo that a friend tagged you in.

Update: Holy sh*t, I just noticed the timestamp of the Tang's original tweet he replied to. Even better.

thats just an old person not knowing how to use twitter.

but this is hilarious that he did this. haha

Kansas State did a magnificent job hiring Tang! Much of the success Coach Drew had was directly because of that man. One has to wonder of Coach Drew is next to leave.
