Miami Fan Board Nuggets

Another interesting thing about these two teams is that (other than Hunter) they are both very old teams, Miami even moreso than us (COVID and transfers will do that)

Miami Starters:
Wong - 21
Moore - 24
McGusty - 24
Miller - 22
Waardenberg - 23

(as comparison)
ISU Starters:
Brockington - 22
Conditt - 21
Kalscheur - 22
Kunc - 22
Hunter - 18

My biggest source of hope is the fact we beat Wisconsin with Hunter and Brockington not playing very well and collectively missing a good half-dozen layups. Our defense will always travel and I expect us to play better offensively.
Our defense was so bad in KC, but I think it was fatigue. I told my son I was looking forward to seeing a rested team. Our guys needed that break so bad. Best defense since the non-con.

Exactly - Fran said it, I think about Texas, during the conf tourney that they were a team that needed a break. It certainly applied to us as well. Just getting out of the BigXII is just a mental boost.

That is where Im at as well. Miami isnt running 7 footers out there to protect the rim the way LSU and Wisconsin did. Both Hunter and IZB had poor offensive games against Wisconsin. Credit to Wisconsins defense for that. 55 points isnt going to get it done against Miami we will need to (and should) score with more efficiency.

Hunter came up big against LSU. Kalscheur had one of his biggest games against Wisconsin. Who is up next? Could this be an IZB 30 point game? Does Grill get hot from 3 and hit 6 or 7?

They need 1,000 reps/day of driving to the block and dropping it off the glass until they stop thinking about it.

Some of it is the adjustment to defenders but this team has always struggled on the bunnies.

This is another really interesting matchup. Wisconsin was our team that forces turnovers versus team that doesn’t turn it over and we came out ahead. This one is going to come down to if we keep the live ball turnovers to a minimum and limit their transition game.

Iowa was another “never turns it over” team that suddenly turned it over.

This. Round 2 you can chalk one team up to a fluke. Sweet 16, both teams are there for a reason. It's going to be who executes their game plan better. I imagine it'll be close.

Exactly. Wisc and auburn would be playing if they were better.

The format is screwy/matchup based for round one but the teams that survive multiple rounds are invariably better teams as it progresses.

Remember when the kid at Notre Dame had these t-shirts printed to piss off the Miami fans? Perhaps we can do something similar...

The 90's Miami football team vibe has warn off and Catholic's VS Convicts can't be beat. Especially with the irony it brings with all of the diddling kid stories the past few decades. Signed a born and raised Catholic who hasn't been to church in years and has no plans to ever go back.

Miami's current kenpom ranking is 42. If I'm a Miami fan the stat that concerns me most is that Iowa State is 15-0 against non Big 12 teams. Included within those 15 wins outside the Big 12 conference were wins against the below teams and their current kenpom ranking:

Xavier (neutral) - 55
Memphis (neutral) -24
Creighton (away) -50
Iowa (home) -14
LSU (
neutral) -22
Wisconsin (neutral) - 35

This. As long as one of them goes off, we will be sitting pretty. And both are due.

I remember the announcers talking about how WI doesn't turn the ball over. Doesn't seem like that worked out.

I don't see why Miami is so confident because they are playing an 11 seed, they are a 10 seed.

Took a peek at Canes Insight to see what they think of us.

In a nutshell, they seem to respect us but expect to win. They think we are slow, poor on O, and are basically poor man’s Texas Tech. Maybe that’s true.

What scares me is their breakout, transition offense. They blew up Auburn yesterday with counterpunch after counterpunch. KU crushed us in similar fashion at Hilton. Gotta make our shots count and avoid telegraphing passes.
Fair enough...spoiler alert, a poor man's TTU from the big 12 can still beat the U.

I heard the Miami fans were doing an SEC chant when they beat Auburn so major props to them.

I feel like we could have a great party...ISU brings all the Busch Lite, Miami brings all the cocaine!

Seeing the #14 next to Iowa is funnier today than it was yesterday.

Yeah I was looking over at their board. One poster said, “We roll”. Another basically told that said poster to have some class because they both got to the sweet sixteen and which deserved their respect. I actually thought the vast majority of the Miami message board posters were very intelligent.

Guys on here have mentioned this and it’s absolutely true, their transition offense has to be some of the best in the country! I hope we stifle that.
