Miami Fan Board Nuggets

I didn't realize that there are 2 BigXII connections on the Miami team - McGusty played at OU in the '16-'17 and '17-'18 seasons before transferring to Miami, and Charlie Moore played for KU in the '18-'19 season, after starting at Depaul, then transferring to Miami.

Their leading rebounder is a 6'6" guard who is a transfer from George Mason.

EDIT: I had this wrong. Moore went from Cal -> KU -> DePaul -> Miami
That could be a good thing. Their impression of Iowa State is based on a team coached by Steve. We are nothing like those teams with our new coach.

With the way our defense is humming right now I like our chances. If I read the stat correctly the 17 turnovers we forced on Wisconsin was the highest number of turnovers theyve committed in 3+ years. Wisconsin is extremely organized and well-coached and our pressure defense had them in complete disarray.

Make no mistake Miami is not a good defensive team. If we get rolling a bit on offense I have faith in our defense to slow them down enough to get the W.

I haven’t seen Auburn for more than a couple minutes. What are they like? Just so I have an idea of what style Miami beat. Who did they have as the 7 seed?
They played USC as the 7-seed and it was a very close game. According to their board, they think we play like USC, but that's silly. Also they seem to think we slow it down, but we really don't - we just play low scoring games because we struggle to score and play tough defense for the whole shot clock.

Auburn is like a better version of Alabama or LSU - what I think of a prototypical SEC team now - super athletes at each position, get up and down the court - not great shotmakers or set offensive teams, but use their athleticism and length to disrupt on defense and to get to the bucket or offensive rebound.

Someone also stated we play defense "like Virginia but not as tough". hahahahaha

in KenPom UVa is #66 defense and we are #5.

I don't know if we will score enough to win - but I am sure we will force more turnovers than they are expecting and they won't be ready for the way we play "no middle" defense

Athletic and want to play fast. They kept trying to play fast and got beat at their own game. At least that is what I saw (again…didn’t have my full attention on it).

I don’t see us trying to get in a track meet with Miami. We just can’t have lazy passes, which we have seen pretty much all year. Kansas and Texas Tech are the types of teams who get in passing lanes, and crush us when we let it happen. I think Miami can do the same thing…if we allow it.

I actually think if we can take care of the ball (limit the stupid turnovers up top), we will frustrate the living hell out of them all game.

Looking at a few other threads on their site, like most fanbases, they were clamoring for the coach (Jim Larranaga) to be fired last year after three losing seasons in a row. He is 72 so he will probably step down soon anyway. Their top assistant is rumored to be a front runner for a HC opening at another school.

They may be more talking about those insanely good UVA teams from a few short years ago. Those teams were absolutely nasty on defense.

Remember when the kid at Notre Dame had these t-shirts printed to piss off the Miami fans? Perhaps we can do something similar...

True - but the much worse version of UVa this year beat them twice.

The game @ UVa may be one of the weirdest box scores I've ever seen. Miami did not ATTEMPT a free throw! And UVa went 3-3 from the FT line - there were only 17 total fouls in the game.

And in addition to not attempting a FT, Miami had 13 steals accounting for all 13 UVa turnovers. UVa has 11 steals on 13 Miami TOs - so in total 24 of 26 turnovers were steals.

UVa won by 13 because they went 8-15 from 3 and Miami went 4-17.

The key will be if the refs let them play. Our pressure and traps are hard to deal with.
Just ask Bucky-- their highest TO game in three years.

They called a ton of fouls on us vs Wisc but we somehow spread them around miraculously to not lose key players at key times.

A lot of them weren't even real fouls, they called a foul on Conditt because Davison trying to shatter his ankle by stomping on it.

I feel better about our team being able to play through officiating after those calls in that road game. LSU game was much better officiating than our typical Big 12 game this year.

Wow those are some crazy stats. Yeah I giving them the benefit of the doubt that the comment about the defense was supposed to be more of a compliment but not fully understanding our defensive numbers.
