In early March? And an EF 3? I find that hard to believe.

It’s March 5th.

There was a March tornado in 1913 that killed 25 in Council Bluffs. It’s obviously not as common as May and June but it does happen.

I didn’t say it never happened. That tornado was over 100 years ago and occurred March 21-23. Yesterday was March 5th.

This video completely reinforces my desire to have an actual tornado shelter instead of just going to the basement:

People around the country seeing all this damage in Iowa are going to be really confused since most of the visuals will be from areas that weren’t so glaciated, aka hilly.

Question for any weather broadcasters/knowledgeable people:

When I watch coverage from the Quad-State tornadoes from December, those broadcasters made heavy use of the correlation coefficient on their coverage. Why don’t DSM stations utilize this more in their on-air coverage? I know that it’s being looked at “behind the scenes”. It seems
Like DSM stations were slow to embrace mixing velocity products in to their on air coverage as well. What drives that?

Also, will we be seeing the rebirth of local stations employing well-trained and experienced storm chasers in to their coverage again after the uptick in tornado activity both in Iowa and around the country?

Really weird yellow clouds around 6 pm here in Ames about 10 minutes after it deluged here. Five minutes after I took this it turned dark and the street lights came on. Just really eerie. 3D74E059-A9C0-4A3B-99F8-2FC18042E466.jpeg

Snow was super heavy this morning. That rain last night before it switched made it wet.
