Official Announcement of TJ as the New Iowa State Mens BBall Coach

The answer will be 'we never found out who the candidates were' which is true, but they'll also never name a proven coach who would realistically come to ISU.

Someone will probably say Mark Few. I feel like that name came up...like he's going to leave Gonzaga's best years to rebuild ISU in the free agent transfer era, at almost 60 years old.

It's not a good faith question. We literally have no idea who would have been looking around.
The hire has worked out. Maybe people pressing this ****** line of questioning or whatever should ease off and enjoy the season instead of trying this thing.

I don’t give a rats ass if people were critical of the hire or hated it at the time. I was even skeptical but chose to stay optimistic primarily due to how **** awful the prior two years had been.

If you’re still skeptical about TJ, that’s also fine because we’re looking at his results in a one year vacuum. With that being said, those results have been amazing all things considered.

But, if you’re still genuinely pissed about the hire and hold a grudge against Pollard or TJ, get a ******* grip lol.

I have defended Prohm many times on here. But this defense is trash, absolute trash considering we're watching a huge 1 year turnaround right now. He had a full 2 years to rebuild the roster. He didn't do it and he got justifiably fired for it and what he took over was better than any coach ever has at ISU. I'm absolutely sick and tired of reading this crap on here.

For Prohm's first bad season, it's a perfectly fine defense. Shayok and Jacobson were transfers that had to sit out, it didn't have the same flexibility as a 1 year rebuild right now. Prohm had spent the previous two offseasons trying to get post depth, which was absolutely reasonable considering that was the team's biggest weakness.

Then you're right, he had a full two years to rebuild the roster that he justifiably got fired for. It seems like you're conflating both of the rebuilds. The first one was successful, considering they got back to the tournament after 1 development year. The second attempted rebuild was a completely failure.

Where in my post did I say anything about OSU?

What words am I twisting.........big or accomplishment?

And if you are happy we made it does it matter how? Will it matter under TJ if they are ever fortunate enough to make it?

Maybe the teams weren't impressive....but it's not Steve Prohm's fault Purdue couldn't make it past Chris Beard and Little Rock. You play what's in front of you, right?

You think UCLA downplayed their second round win against UAB in 2015 because it wasn't ISU?

It's ISU and we all should be happy on any accomplishment and not get caught up in this cult of personality contest this board seems to promote.

Steve Prohm screwed the pooch his last two years and was rightfully let go. But let's not keep trying to re-image his accomplishments just because you didn't like him.
You quoted Sigmapolis saying people rip on Prohm for the OSU loss then quote my words as Exhibit A. Not sure what your point was there?

Once again you’re trying to say I’m downplaying the Sweet 16. It’s a big deal for ISU. That said, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal for Prohm’s resume in light of the teams we beat and the LOADED ROSTER we had. Any coach could get a team with Burton on the bench to the S16.

I never said anything about TJ. If he makes the S16 on his own merit, that would be a much bigger accomplishment than Prohm taking a Hoiberg roster and underwhelming.

Also I never said I didn’t like Prohm. I wish he worked out. Seemed like a great guy and was liked by players or at least that was what I took away. Was a good representative for ISU in terms of character.

So I’m happy about the S16 110%, but I don’t let it obscure the fact that Prohm’s best season involved him doing less with more.

I didn't like the process for hiring. Thought it was decided even before Prohm was canned. I love ISU so I got over that and hoped for the best once he was hired. I like what he has done so far. It shows promise. He does have advantages to rebuild that Prohm didn't, not a Prohm excuse (he sucked and needed to go), just facts. Basically no sits on transfers, that is huge.

TJ has done a nice job this year. I will give him some slack for next year but year three is the year that we need to be in top three of the conference and not be so totally inept on offense, imo. Next year I expect to at least be middle of the pack big 12 if IB and most of the other senior don't come back.

Lol, ok, I guess if I have a reputation for not liking terrible basketball with a coach way over his head then so be it.

Okay.........who were the "morons" on the team Saturday because we didn't win by more than 1?

McDoormat never finished above 2nd to last in the Big 12. Please list McDermott's achievements that equal Prohms while at ISU.
He didn't get fired which is an achievement exceeding prohm. And that's a pretty objective measurement.

Lol, what are you talking about?

Oh please don't feign ignorance now. Under Prohm they go to a RANKED KSU and win.....but Weiler-Babb is a moron for making a bad play and so is Prohm for not yanking him. Remember......they won. But for you....not by enough. Do you want me to go drag that old thread up?

Now we go to KSU which is not ranked and win by 1. Well gee Jere.......who are the "morons" now? Shouldn't we have beat a 14-14 KSU by much more than that?

Good grief. After watching TJ Coach this group of players that he absolutely built from scratch to the NCAA’s in an absolutely loaded Big 12 Conference, I am left considering what TJ might have done had he been named Coach previously.

Those who say they do not like the “process” have never wanted TJ as Coach. They want another Prohm. Anyone but TJ.

Since when I have I ever been upset about scoring margin?

You've officially gone off the deep end, it's a beautiful day outside, go do something more productive.

With the same roster.

Steve Prohm minus Naz Long made the sweet 16.

The year before with Naz Long lost to UAB in the first round.

Who did less with more?

I liked Fred so I'm really not into this. Just don't like all the re-imaging of good things under Prohm.

think it's JLH time in here

I know you are trying but hate is a stronger emotion than lust. Can they cave a coaching hire thread? Maybe we need a “get a room” forum? I need to quit clicking on it but it’s like rubber necking a car crash. It’s at least less depressing than Ukraine.

Because we couldn't afford it, 4 years and 4 losing seasons very impressive. I just don't understand McDermott supporters. Anyway back to TJ he is doing great and I'm glad I didn't post anything after he was hired because I had very mixed feelings about it.
