Official Announcement of TJ as the New Iowa State Mens BBall Coach

We both need to man up and stop dumbing each other's posts. You're smart enough to know neither one of us is right and it all depends on personal opinion on what we think it's more important.
Like I already said, I enjoy watching basketball 5 months, not for a weekend in March. Upsets happen in March, it doesn't diminish the fact that the 2001 team won the Big 12 championship.

Otherwise, I do think this is a good post.

Yeah, there’s now way to get guys here in short order.
I see where you’re going with this but transfer rules and eligibility not even close to the same then as they are now.

Exhibit A:

And to make your point with the almost the exact same roster (minus Naz Long/injury) that lost to UAB under Fred the year before.

Yeah.......UAB happens....but a sweet 16 is no big accomplishment.

Can you imagine in a few years ISU is fortunate enough to draw a Iona in the first round and have a Little Rock under the next Chris Beard upset Purdue to be ISU's opponent the second round? You think anyone here would down play a sweet 16 under those conditions with TJ?

Can you imagine any one at any time doing that with any coach here at ISU other than Steve Prohm? Well, maybe Wayne Morgan. Fricking cyclonefanatic..........never disappoint.

It's madness.

Your Exhibit A never has me stating OSU is the worst loss ever sooooo no.

Also you’re twisting my words here. Sweet 16? Big accomplishment. Wins over 13 seed Iona and 12 seed AR-LR to get there??? Didn’t exactly play murderer’s row.

Listen, I’m happy we made the S16 and it was huge accomplishment, but it was hilarious seeing how many people at the time thought Prohm was a wizard for taking a #7 team in the nation to the Sweet 16, beating two cupcakes to get there, and going 10-8 in B12 for a 5th place finish and a ranking of #22.

It’s possible to believe S16 is an accomplishment but also the teams we beat to get there were less than impressive.

Sooo....you did not enjoy watching us beat #1 Oklahoma in Hilton that season then? Because that did happen during the regular season.
Yeah, I did, I was about to comment in one of your replies that I was happy about beating Oklahoma and Kansas 2 weeks in a row on Big Monday, but I was still not happy with how that entire season played out.

Where in my post did I say anything about OSU?

What words am I twisting.........big or accomplishment?

And if you are happy we made it does it matter how? Will it matter under TJ if they are ever fortunate enough to make it?

Maybe the teams weren't impressive....but it's not Steve Prohm's fault Purdue couldn't make it past Chris Beard and Little Rock. You play what's in front of you, right?

You think UCLA downplayed their second round win against UAB in 2015 because it wasn't ISU?

It's ISU and we all should be happy on any accomplishment and not get caught up in this cult of personality contest this board seems to promote.

Steve Prohm screwed the pooch his last two years and was rightfully let go. But let's not keep trying to re-image his accomplishments just because you didn't like him.

For sure. I don’t get your point though as I’ve been talking about how the whole season matters and ISU underwhelmed.

Heck Jere, you weren't happy when we beat a highly ranked KSU team in Manhattan, and referred to Nick Weiler-Babb as a "moron" for making one bad play....even though we won. So stop the re-imagine BS. You were never happy during anytime when Prohm was coach. Every win was an accident and every loss was worthy of firing.

If it was just you..........it's funny. But there were way too many on this board that were like you from June of 2015. He may not have been a fan favorite...but he deserved more support than that.

There is no question that TJ has had a season that exceeded expectations thus far. However, I wouldn’t anoint him king just yet. We’ll see how March plays out as well as how we do with the recruiting front for next year. There definitely has been some lapses of inefficiency on both sides of the ball this season. I hope he continues to build on success.
Hey guys, TJ may have had the greatest start ever for first year ISU Coach, be a conference coach of the year candidate, and orchestrated one of the greatest turnarounds in college basketball history, but he hasn't been PERFECT, so let's pump the brakes a little, ok?

This is completely ridiculous. And yeah, ill always call out boneheded low IQ basketball. It was similar to Conditt the other day, he got ripped apart in the game thread for it just like I ripped into the player that year.

Well, with all of our whopping 5 total Sweet Sixteens in school history, we have certainly earned the right as fans to denigrate the ones that didn't include beating a single digit seed and/or the '96 Chicago Bulls to get there.

No, it's not. You have a rep on this site for a reason.

Yep, just like winning conference tourney's under Prohm became..........meh.

Wonder if that has changed now as well?

Then don't get all butthurt when you get called out for low IQ/emotionally overwrought posts on here then.

Any coach that can start Bobby Buckets in the Big 12 and get that team to 20 wins should be free from criticism.

I love Bob, but he is the weakest 20+ min post in the Big 12.

Y'all are brickering like we have Kane, Ejim, Niang and Hogue on the team.

I had concerns about Prohm his first season. He inherited the #7 team in the nation which was arguably ISU’s strongest team historically including…

Niang Sr
Morris Jr
Nader Sr
Thomas Jr
McKay Sr

Burton Jr
Naz Long Sr
Cook So

…and they finished 10-8 in B12 play and #22 in the nation. 5 or 6 NBA guys and so much talent and we finished #22??? Only reason we made S16 was weak tourney games.

Texas has 5 stars and 4 stars all of the time. It only works out every single year for Duke and Kansas.

McDoormat never finished above 2nd to last in the Big 12. Please list McDermott's achievements that equal Prohms while at
McDermott didn't set school records for most conference losses, biggest loss in Hilton, longest stretch without a conference win, longest stretch for a road conference win, and least wins in a season. Those all belong to prohm.

McDermott also inherited a school coming out of a recruiting violation infraction and the departure of several key players

I was a season ticket holder during both. I was ready to drop to one seat before prohm's last year to keep my priority points and was bailed out by covid restrictions. I never considered reducing seats during McDermott's years.

We will have to agree to disagree
So you have no accomplishments to list. I did drop my season tickets during the McDermott years.
