Official Announcement of TJ as the New Iowa State Mens BBall Coach

Careful posting this kind of stuff around here. There are alot of people who think Prohm did a phenomenal job that first year.
"We only went 7 deep, and made the Sweet 16".

Dude, your hatred of Prohm is so strong and so irrational that you are on record as stating that you feel a season in which we lost in the first round to freakin' UAB as a #3 seed wass better than a season in which we went to the Sweet 16, which was our 5th one in our illustrious basketball history.

I love your passion, as I've stated before, but you are about as irrational an actor on discussing Iowa State basketball history as Putin has shown himself to be by starting a land war in Europe.

You think that was underachieving with that talent? Let me tell you the story of U, A, and B.
A 3 seed losing to a 14 seed ranked #135 isn’t underachieving, that’s called March Madness where anything can happen.

25-9, 12-6 and #9 ranking in the nation with a B12 tourney championship…or #1 UVA’s season where they won 30 games before losing to UMBC isn’t underachieving either. Disappointing? Yes. Underachieving? No.

@jereseib, you can laugh at my posts all you want, but you are record as stating that you hated Prohm from the very start before he coached his very first game, so I'm not writing anything on here that is flat out wrong now, am I?

And as I've written before, I'll give you credit for at least being honest about it, but it doesn't make it any less unfair or completely irrational.

Calm down man, I was laughing at the Putin part. How is it unfair? I'm not the only one who feels that year was disappointing because once in awhile on here someone posts the same thing.

I was also right on Prohm and have been right so far on TJ haven't I?

I supported Prohm most of his tenure, but looking back the hatchet job he did on this program is undeniable. People are right to criticize how bad he was.

The answer will be 'we never found out who the candidates were' which is true, but they'll also never name a proven coach who would realistically come to ISU.

Someone will probably say Mark Few. I feel like that name came up...like he's going to leave Gonzaga's best years to rebuild ISU in the free agent transfer era, at almost 60 years old.
That's why I said realistic. Anyone who thinks Few was a realistic option is delusional beyond reason.

Fair enough.

I don't remember you being all aboard the TJ bandwagon the same way other posters on here were before he was even hired, but I suppose I'll take your word for it.

And yes, I've written before that you ended up being validated on the Prohm hire. Of course, you were ready to fire him before the very first game of the 2015-16 season, hence the comment about you being irrational.

I can think of at least 4-5 other NCAA tournament losses that subjectively I was more disappointed in than losing to Ohio State in '19, but after that the program really fell apart pretty quickly.

I jumped off the Prohm bandwagon when we lost to 'freakin Florida A & M on New Year's Eve of 2019. The beginning of the end of the Prohm era IMO.

I have a feeling the tables will be turned now and I'm going to spend the next 5 years defending TJ while the Prohm fanboys will try to find every excuse in the book why TJ will fail.

FWIW I really like this hire. **** the haters.
@ISUChippewa
This is what I posted in this same thread the day TJ was hired. I was in the minority then, just like I was 6 or 7 years ago when I was upset over Prohm.

I guess 2018 when Bruce Weber and the unranked wildcats had a cake walk to the elite 8 with games vs the 8, 16 and 5 seed before losing to 11 seed Loyola was a better season than anything Iowa State has had in 20 seasons then :)

@Sigmapolis
You never answered my question. I know you were still a toddler in 2001, but would you consider the Big 12 title we won with Tinsley that year a colossal **** up because we lost to Hampton?

Same year, but the Iowa loss is when he lost me. Probably should have been obvious earlier on, but I'm an optimist and want to support our coaches.

I was in Cyclone Alley for that dunk, I actually still have that shirt. It was the loudest I ever heard it in there.

Yeah, that was Rucker Park stuff. Not that Wayne was the next John Wooden, but we had people here on firewaynemorgan.com saying they would rather lose with "integrity" than win the Rucker Park way. So we get GMAC.....................and ISU lost with integrity. Mission accomplished.

But 11 years later can't be too mad because without GMAC there would have been no Fred. And while it wasn't quite the two LE years, it sure was fun.

Um...no.

Making the Elite Eight back in 2000 for ISU was the best season in the last 20+ years for both ISU and KSU.

I've read other posters on here justify our 2015 #3 seed team, just coming off a huge Big 12 tournament championship, losing to a #14 seeded UAB team who had to win their tournament to get into the NCAA's, as being a regrettable part of March Madness; as in, yeah, it sucks, but March happens and we were just on the wrong side of it, oh well, etc.

A lot of those same posters, including ones posting in this thread, will then tell us that an Iowa State team four years later, also coming off a great run to win the Big 12 tournament championship but not quite as talented as the '15 team, that earned a 6 seed but then lost a game to 11 seed Ohio State, from the Big Ten (not Conference USA), and notably much better and more talented than that UAB team, is pretty much the worst loss in ISU NCAA Tournament history; worse than UAB, hell, even worse than Hampton. And that's because they hated the coach, who, yes, ended up crashing and burning and taking the program into depths heretofore undiscovered in program history.

But, the hypocrisy is impossible to ignore, and deserves to be commented upon.
