Midlands Canceled

Honestly I don’t know. He’s wrestled up and down over the past 18 months. It doesn’t seem like he’s cutting much weight but you never know if kids are still growing. Obviously that would be ideal but he‘s the kind of talent that can pick his spot.
Can’t wait to see him in a Cyclone singlet. His ability to hand fight I believe will allow him to find success early and often in college.

i wouldn’t be surprised if both of the MI freshmen wrestle next year. I’m a big proponent of redshirting but Rojas will beat anyone we have at 174 next year/ would absolutely fill a hole at 165 and Swiderski his an absolute hammer wiht skills that appear to be transferrable to the college level.

when you have a wrestler like Carr on the squad you need to maximize all the spots around him to try and find a team trophy.
Pretty sure Carr has said publicly more than once his plan has been to go up after this year. Really excited for Rojas though. That is what we need. Think about what he’ll learn training with David…

The only way I think Rojas would go next year would be if Carr stays at 157 and Manny could go 165. I don't think that is the current plan right now

All indications seem to point that Carr doesn’t like the cut to 157. He talks about it and has tweeted about getting 2 extra pounds and how much that would help this year. I also think we see him up at 165 next year. So who do we have at 157 if that’s the case? Cam is a 149 and needs to get stronger to be competitive at 149. Paniro big enough to fill into 157?

Wisconsin has a really good one at 165 in Hamiti. He will make things interesting for the next few years. Just teched the guy in the finals who knocked off a returning NCAA finalist.
He‘s been good forever, but going to show it on a bigger stage now.

Watched him wrestle at Super 32 and was really impressed with him. Didn’t know who he was until that tournament. He caught my eye though and I have a feeling Reader is helping hone his skills over there. 165 is loaded with talent and it will continue for a lot of years to come with a couple big time studs redshirting right now.

The next time this coaching staff has a roster management plan will be the first time this staff has a
roster management plan!!

If we follow form, Carr will start at 165 and then decide mid-season to drop down.

Im only half kidding….

Younger Kraisser is going to be an option at 157. Had a good true freshman year at Campbell. Has been injured early this year, so don't think we have seen his true potential yet
Good to know @buf87. Coaches continue to build quality depth we haven’t seen in awhile. Would love to see us get 4 AA’s this year with 1 NC.

I'm also super excited for our recruits and especially love the results from our MI guys - Rojas & Swiderski are putting the wrestling world on alert. However we've got some quality guys at their weights so I'd be surprised if these guys didn't redshirt to develop. Heck, they may have to be a backup for a year or two after that. Depth is awesome and we haven't had this kind of depth since Cael was our coach.

Fountain of youth: 2022 recruits (& current redshirts) @ projected weights
125 - Fousek (Knopick)
133/141 - Swiderski (lots of depth at 125)
149 - Paniro Johnson (Cam Robinson)
157 - Connor Euton (Jack Gaukel)
*165 - wide open unless Carr moves up (Personally - I hope he continues to dominate at 157)
174 - Rojas (Broderson)
184 - Villaescusa (Cody Fisher)
Hwt - Greenlee & Schon

PLUS we only have 149 filled by a "Senior" that can't return. All of our other starters will be back and have to fight it out with our young studs for starting spots.

Let's just say I'm super excited about the future of Iowa State Wrestling :)

Yep - It's too bad that the coaches didn't predict Covid and have a weight management plan for everyone taking that into consideration.

I'm only half kidding ;)

I'd be ecstatic with 1 champ plus 4 AA's. But not sure that's very realistic.

Who you thinking for the AA's?
In an ideal scenario: Coleman, The Cuban, Whoever ends up 49.

I don’t know who would be the 4th non-David AA. Maybe the Hawaiian or Redding if they wrestle out of their minds. I would think the blood round or R16 would be their ceiling though (and I would be damn happy if they did that too).

Yeah, I am hoping for 3 AA. But what I am really wanting to see is the other qualifiers win 2-3 matches

You left out Caleb Helgeson at 174 or 184. I don't think they would grey shirt him? If they didn't think he would good.
Hope they are recruiting the Michigan light weight for 125.

I know 4 sounds like a stretch, but Coleman and Bastida have looked so good lately. So until they make me think different I’ll pick them to AA. Degen has done it before and he’s a threat to anyone. Parker at 141 is a tough out. Just need 3 of those 4 guys to find their way on and I think it’s time coaches make that happen.
