Isheem Young enters transfer portal

Best thing as a parent there is to teach her about life in general and how those type of things can happen in your life. Not what you want for your kid but unfortunately about all you can do in those points
That's where we went. Just shut your mouth when baited in class, do your work and get through it. You are going to encounter these situations throughout your life, even in your work life and you need to be able to plow through them. Unfortunately she has now had two English teachers who make every assignment and every class discussion about racism as well. Hey, I know it is a problem and the Twin Cities were on a national stage about the issue, but sometimes overkill can be counterproductive. A lot of kids tend to shut down when they are hammered every day that they are racist just because of who they are (white).

My kids could have better grades had they completely shut up but I told them that I would rather pay more for college and have them learn to fight than a 4.0 who got trampled.

I did tell them to pick their battles though. There is a time and a place just to shut up and except it I mentioned. Your daughter appears to be in that situation

That time has passed.

I'm in favor of pitching the ACT/SAT stuff for college. If people want to base scholarships on it, that is their choice. I have seen too many times a high ACT person do poorly due to work skills and general ability and also seen poor test takers really excel in school and work. They just aren't a great standardized test taker.

Is there another metric that could be used? I'm not against dropping those, but what other way would you use to define if someone should be accepted to a specific college or program?

ACT/SAT should be part of the evaluation. Reason "Sliding scale" is used. If you cannot score a 37 on act, then maybe college is not the answer.

ACT goes to 36.
Also, those tests have proven to be absolutely worthless There's no reason to include them.

They work with classes now. Are you taking classes that will set you up for college? Or taking remedial math and everyday living to just pass. Very few students now enter college with no college credits. My son had 25, my daughter had 21 and her boyfriend was in the 40s. You need 24 to be a transfer student. If they take those classes and do well, it means more than scoring (which you aren’t punished for guessing) well on a 4 hour test.

When I went to ISU, I had to write an essay to get out of English 104, isn’t that better than testing me over various literature anf grammar rules with a multiple choice?

I have decided that University's need to decide if they are a minor league for pro football or a university who happens to offer football.

Let the 20-40 university's [who knows how many would do it] sign up for this super minor leagues. No rules [not really any now]. Let the rest come up with a set of rules that they can agree to that will stand legal challenges and continue to play college football. I am becoming more interested in non power 5 football with each new published account of $$$$$$$$$hit!

I’m guessing college would be a little empty under those requirements
I just pulled this off of the NCAA website. Last time I was involved, 16 was ACT minimum. I just assumed this number of 37 was a new calculation method.

I had a horrible high school experience. I wouldn't have gotten in under those requirements (even if we turned that ACT requirement into a possible #).
My daughter had a bad ACT score, but she’s a grinder. She said she should be 3.5 this semester she figured. I said anything with a 3 and I’m more than happy.

FROM WEBSITE: The NCAA sliding scale uses your “ACT sum score.” This is calculated by adding together your English, math, reading and science scores. You can take the ACT a total of 12 times during high school, and your top scores in each subject will be used to create your highest ACT score.

24 for a full qualifier last I knew. Although they have went to an index number now that allows for a weaker score if you do better with other things.

37 would be a 9.25 average. Okay, now that seems very low.

If your GPA is 2.00, but you are very smart, the website shows this sliding scale: 2.000 GPA and 86 on ACT to qualify. Any experts out there that can clarify?

You saying you didn’t get a 37+? Only went to 34 or 35 in my day.

I got a 26., had a 2.9ish for high school. As things go, I did kinda OK.

Google tells me it goes to 36.

My general plan is to open the doors and give people a chance. Obviously, not everyone is pushing on to maniacal extremes like I did, but that's fine. People find out a lot about subjects and themselves.
