This kid is growing up FAST right in front of us!!

In his first CyHawk game, Tyrese goes for 11 points, 8 rebounds (He was the smallest player on the floor), 6 assists (2/1 A/TO ratio). While he didn't have the best shooting night. He does all the little things that lead to winning basketball!

He has also been a LOCKDOWN defender on opponents point guards. What a weapon. Are we sure this kid is 18? He is a 3 point shot away from being unstoppable! So excited for his future!

I don't want to put expectations on him that aren't achievable.. But he reminds me so much of 2019-20 Davion Mitchell already

Could be an appreciation thread for every guy on the team, as all 9 that get minutes have made important contributions to the success of this team.

Still stand by my comparison of Tyrese to a mix of Monte Morris and Lindell Wigginton. Has some of that under control dissection of the defense that Monte had (but not as much) with some of the explosiveness of Lindell (but not as much). Better on defense at this stage than either of them.

Our fans may bristle but I see a little Marcus Smart in his game...minus the flopping of course.

A practice cone has better defense than Lindell...

Controlling the pace of the game is always important but it's especially big for a team like iowa that can only play one way. He did that better than the experienced guards from Purdue and Illinois. He's the real deal.

Fran F. needs to up his game a little and compare our current phenom to our other great guards-- when they were freshman.
No way Monte was close to Tyrese in what he is doing out of the gate.

Tyrese is 63-2 in his last 2 1/3 years of basketball. Kid is a winner.

I am as big of a Monte Morris fan as you will find and they are 2 very different point guards, but I think Tyrese is way ahead of where Monte was at this point - at least in terms of a scorer and defender. Obviously, Montes turnover rate was much lower but he also was not always the primary ball handler so not necessary apples to apples.

Monte was the perfect freshman to add to a group of skilled offensive guys who had been together and had something started. He fit in perfectly. Though undersized, the first day he put on an ISU jersey he was the best ball handler and one of the best passers in college basketball.

Hunter is ideal for this group who are basically a quickly formed brotherhood of new parts who came to clamp down on defense and work opponents to death. At least this year a lot of his offense is going to come from his defense.

Tyrese has been exceptional. He has not played like a freshman point guard.
