***CFB Conference Championship Games Thread***

Don't past results suggest a G5 team can usually play with a P5 team in a major bowl game when given a chance? Below are games I found between a P5 team and a non-P5 team in a New Year's Six bowl game the past 20 years. I put a (*) by the games with a point differential of 14+ games. P5 teams won 4 of those games, but also lost 3. Overall it's 8-7 in favor of the non-P5.

There's also the 2009 Fiesta Bowl where they cowardly put 2 really strong non-P5 teams against each other. Boise St beat TCU 17-10 [non-con Boise beat Oregon and TCU beat Virginia and Clemson]

Also added non-con P5 games for the non-P5 team in brackets at end.

Cotton:
(*)2019: Penn St beats Memphis 53-39 [Ole Miss]
2016: Wisconsin beats Western Michigan 24-16 [Northwestern, Illinois]

Fiesta:
2018: LSU beats UCF 40-32 []
2014: Boise St beats Arizona 38-30 [Ole Miss]
2013: UCF beats Baylor 52-42 [Penn St, South Carolina]
2006: Boise St beats Oklahoma 43-42 [Oregon St]
(*)2004: Utah beats Pitt 35-7 [Texas A&M, Arizona, North Carolina, (wins by scores of 41-21, 23-6, 46-16!!!, still got an inferior bowl opponent and bowl game was not as close as the score indicated)]

Orange:
(*)2012: Florida St beats Northern Illinois 31-10 [Iowa, Kansas]

Peach:
2020: Georgia beats Cinci 24-21 []
2017: UCF beats Auburn 34-27 [Maryland]
(*)2015: Houston beats Florida St 38-24 [Louisville, Vanderbilt]

Rose:
2010: TCU beats Wisconsin 21-19

Sugar:
(*)2009: Florida beats Cinci 51-24 [Rutgers, Oregon St]
(*)2008: Utah beats Alabama 31-17 [Michigan, Oregon St]
(*)2007: Georgia beats Hawaii: 41-10 []

Your takes are...something.
have fun with the decline of the sport because of the asinine decision making takes place at the top

the sec will probably break away from the ncaa and establish its own semi-professional league and the sport will start to implode

with an ideal system, yes I think they should be in the cfp if they won the big 10 (over any other big 10 team like ohio state or michigan)

this year I would have to see how everything plays out but I think cinci and alabama would be locks

if michigan wins, I think they deserve to be in

Haha. Called it.

Michigan goes reverse on short yardage for no reason and horizontal first series.

They're screwed.

Everyone grieves differently. Can’t judge because you have no idea whats going through their minds.

Agree.... but I have to say that the mother looked like she didn't want to be there at all. The rest of the family did.

ha my point is what's the point of these conference championships if the results don't matter

why go to the games or watch them if we already know georgia/alabama/ohio state are getting in because they have the "best team"

georgia should be out imo

what was the point of that game if it literally had no consequences
You’re not wrong. A convincing loss at this point in the season to another team that will be in the playoff should be treated as a playoff loss, in my opinion. Let someone else get their shot.

Big pass play. Not complete but got the yardage.

Should have set up a 'Ways Michigan will lose this' drinking bingo.
