ND has the #4 recruiting class this year and #2 for 2023 so far. Any hire but Freeman means starting over on both of those. I think that will be a huge bonus in the Freeman column when ND sits down to think about going with him vs. interviewing Fickell or Campbell.

You would think, but does seem somewhat rather shortsighted to hire within just to keep a recruiting class together. ND is just on another level in terms history and resources, they will be fine and will get the right guy. Hopefully they see Freeman as the future.

With all these crazy coaching salaries, I would think KF would be threatening to leave again if Barta didn’t back the Brinks truck up.
I man with a bunch of lawsuits hanging over him and requiring his douchey son had to be the OC while horrible at it; just isn’t a high demand thing.

I don’t think that would be the sole reason. But whiffing on 1-2 classes in a row means a full rebuild and has an effect on future classes too. If you have a good thing going with CFP-level talent coming in, and you think that can be continued, then you are going to consider that.
