whatever i have my opinion you have yours. i will agree to disagree. but ur naming players that haven't even enrolled in school yet let alone make a jumper in hilton
Yep, and if we were to make a knee jerk response, and fire McDermott now, the odds are that none of them ever would.

...Which, if they receive, they can't get a job to pay for food, toiletries, or anything else - as not everyone is blessed with parents who can pay for these things, this is a big deal. They also have to be at school playing a game on December 23, when everyone else is at home with their families. They go back out on the court nursing injuries when they could just give up, just out of pride. How about some respect.

No doubt the players work their butts off and deserve some respect for the time and effort they put into it. It is not all on the players as there is plenty of blame to spread around.

However, they do get a lot of perks for the time and effort they put in compared to other student who take out student loans and are still paying them off eve today - Study tables, room and board, meals at local restaurants, trip to Hawaii this year, tuition....

The most important thing is the experience itself will teach them more about the real working world more than all of their courses combined. Team work, effort, pride, people always questioning your ability and proving yourself. That in itself is priceless.

All that said, I am sure the players are having a hard time with this loss and all I can ask is they learn from their mistakes and show some improvement against Houston.

 Big problems!!!

Either the players aren't willing to learn or nobody is teaching them anything. Young and old players are making high school mistakes. The fundamentals are not there.
The question is why???? I really don't know.

I do not think that this slow, controlled, deliberate style of play will ever get us to even an average amount of wins.

Face it. If you aren't attacking the basket and being agressive you will be a bottom feader in the big 12. Too sad.

Also I tend to agree the team is lost. Some players were smiling at each other on the court when they were down by 9 tonight. What does this say???

Excuse me but I get so god damn tired of reading stuff like this. How was Morgan driving the program into disaster? His first two years were better than the previous two. And if Mac is 20 times the coach Morgan was why has he not even come CLOSE to the success Morgan had? Morgan's worst year was arguably better than Mac's best. I'm having Dana Altman and Jim Woolridge flashbacks here.

I agree with this completely - no reason to rip the kids. They work really hard and I'm proud of them. If they aren't good enough or experienced enough to compete at a level that will help the team win, that's not their fault. It's the coach's fault for putting them in a position to fail. I don't know why more people don't see this.

Blah blah blah. Same argument every time. Who hear was upset when Morgan got fired?

Morgan got the job so the players wouldn't leave.
Morgan inherited a full cupboard so to speak while Mac inherited an empty one.
Year 3 of Morgan was terrible and their was no outlook for the future. Year 3 of Mac is looking terrible but only halfway done, but at least the future looks bright with the players we are getting in.

Someone said it best in one of the trillion other posts, maybe JP pulled the trigger a little to early on WM so he could get one of the hottest coaching prospects in the country, lets not make the same mistake twice. I don't care if Mac is a good coach or not, at this point, firing him at the end of the season would not do us any good. Look at the big freakin picture!!!!!

As painful as that was to watch tonight, I think you're right. Some tremendous help is on the way in the form of Colvin and Gilstrap so I think we all need to suck it up. If we fire GMac now, we'll lose those guys and it will be like GMac's first year all over again.

I'm just hoping that Colvin > Garrett. I love the progress Diante has made versus last year, but he's still just as inconsistent at PG as Brackins is at PF.

How do you think Steve Alford hung around so long at Iowa? Everyone was scared of losing recruits. Big deal. The right coach at ISU could win and win early without any of our future verbals.

Hit it out of the park. We're "dumbing down" the offense because we've loaded up on too many role players.

i agree we have too many role players, but i think they look more comfortable pushing the ball up the floor. in the half court, it seems if Brackins can't get the ball, they take turns shooting 3's.

Says we have a 'nice guy' as a coach. When's the last time you've seen him really ride someone at a game or get in their face? Nope, mistake after mistake and nothing happens. TF or LE would have popped a vein with some of the lousy defense exhibited by these players over the last three years. Even Johnny Orr grabbed Barry Stevens by the jersey one game and put him on the bench. No spark, no life, no offense, no defense. Other than that a really entertaining product out on the court.

We are young and have no athletic player and now low post. Not sure why everyone is suprised by losing.

Players like Mike Taylor and Wesley Johnson, Gilstrap block shots, lock players down, get rebounds and create Their OWN shots. Right now all we have is an extremley young guard and guys standing around shooting 3's like urbandale mens league. When shots go up nobody rebounds.

Trust me on this...Guys like Wes Eik and Stiagger will be unreal IF they can get someone to frickin penetrate etc. My concern is finding someone downlow that can function. We are in major trouble down low right now. To get where we need tobe we need a player like Jared Homan at the 5, not Brackins. Brackins is a perfect 4 man. Teams sag on him b/c that is all we have currently.
Don't be calling for GMAC's head b/c all that is going to do is start another 5 year rebuilding project. Does everyone really want all these players to leave? Let them get to be Juniors and Seniors and let his recruits come in and not get thrown into the fire as a freshmen. That is the equation to being successful at any school. I have some doubts, but I would rather write this year off then fire the guy.

So if things are bumpy all season what are you going to do? If they dont fire GMAC this year what will you do? Some of you people treat the athletics like someone shot your mom. Go have a beer and sleep on it.

Says the guy with 9k+ posts on a Cyclone message board.

I don't care about just recruits. I want a base for a coach, and after next years class comes in, we will have a solid base for a coach to build on if Mac isn't getting it done. I don't want to wait 3 years for a team to have more than 2 or 3 players on the floor that can score. Look at the drastic difference in us from Year 1 to now. We actually have a bench that plays and has the "potential" to score points.

Heck, our coach is so scared of losing any more players that he's making public apologies in the newspaper!

I'm certainly not one of those, "Oh, poor athletes" people - they're being given tens of thousands of dollars of free education.

However - out of the perks you mentioned, the only ones not included in their scholarship are dinners at local restuarants and the trips. I can tell you right now - I travel a ton on the company's dime, and it is not a vacation when you have something to do. Sure, these guys will have some time off, but they don't go there for a whole week. They go a day or two in advance, practice their butts off, and then play a game. If you're doing a good job in all of that, there's not a lot of time or energy left for sightseeing or lying by the pool. Not very glamorous.

I also hope to see some improvement - this was disheartening, and lacked effort. I just bring up these points to request people please show them the respect they deserve.
