Yeah, I guess the fact that he's finally attracting primo talent means that hole just keeps getting bigger. :jimlad:

how is he coaching the talent we have now that gives you any idea that when we have all good quality big 12 players he will be able to beat other teams all good quality big 12 players?

My wife and I have thousands of dollars worth of student loans that says they are very well compensated. The walk-ons even get jersey chasers for crying out loud.

I'm unsure how sleeping with random chicks counts as compensation, so I'll just go ahead and repost what I said before regarding their free educations:

...Which, if they receive, they can't get a job to pay for food, toiletries, or anything else - as not everyone is blessed with parents who can pay for these things, this is a big deal. They also have to be at school playing a game on December 23, when everyone else is at home with their families. They go back out on the court nursing injuries when they could just give up, just out of pride. How about some respect.

I agree that they are lucky to receive an opportunity here, but they give a lot to your entertainment. And I think it is worthy of noting that "entertainment" is precisely what athletics are.

Can you name another major conference team where the fans wouldn't be calling for the coaches head with the results that we are having in year 3?

Do you really think at this level that coaches don't anticipate getting fired if they can't get their teams to perform?

BINGO!!! The stakes are too high, the financial implications are too great. The "give the guy 4 years" logic is long gone.

I guess I forgot that we were 7-4.

Good point.

OK, what this program needs, more than anything else, is to win friggin games against Hawai'i and SDSU.

I'm pissed. I'm still giving him 4 years. I'd rather vent on here than to my lovely wife.

Hard to tell you that when all of the damn talent we had right now was flatter than a pancake on the court. **** happens.

And possibly 1 year away from NCAA sanctions in basketball the way the program was headed under Morgan. .

Whoa....are you inferring to the situation where Morgan & Arch used a scheduling broker ? In my opinion that's a stretch. Perhaps there were other "practices" I'm not aware of.

I just feel JP pulled the trigger too soon, but more importantly, JP might be too patient with GMac. Don't get me wrong - firing MacD, even if we finish last in the B12, is poor timing and would probably mean we have no shot at Harrison Barnes (not like we have much of a shot now). Tough situation, but last place in the B12 is certainly going to make the Hot Seat seem like a cool ride.

Now, on to ISU. Coach Mac's style of play "allows" teams like SDSU and others to compete with us. I'll be honest that when coach Mac was hired I was really excited because his Northern Iowa teams played the style of basketball that would allow them to keep it close with the big boys. His style is a slow down, make the other team play defense and work the shot clock, and try to play good defense type of play with less talented players. He does not attack the opposition whatsoever, nor do these players we have deserve to play in a style like Mac's. Our players are way too talented to be put in hand cuffs like Mac does to these boys. Coach Mac, you are ruining these players careers and they deserve better.

Hit it out of the park. We're "dumbing down" the offense because we've loaded up on too many role players.

I wish I could give you rep for this, but I already used it in that Michael Jackson thread!

 You lost me.

Mac took over a program that was diving into a disaster. He was handed the reigns to a program that was quickly falling apart. He's slowly building the program back up to what it needs to be, to be continually successful instead of having a flashy year every once in a while. If you want Morgan, go watch him installing Satelites. Mac is 20 times a better coach than Morgan.

Excuse me but I get so god damn tired of reading stuff like this. How was Morgan driving the program into disaster? His first two years were better than the previous two. And if Mac is 20 times the coach Morgan was why has he not even come CLOSE to the success Morgan had? Morgan's worst year was arguably better than Mac's best. I'm having Dana Altman and Jim Woolridge flashbacks here.

Edit: I want to state my support for the players. I feel sorry that they put in this kind of time for these results.

I agree with this completely - no reason to rip the kids. They work really hard and I'm proud of them. If they aren't good enough or experienced enough to compete at a level that will help the team win, that's not their fault. It's the coach's fault for putting them in a position to fail. I don't know why more people don't see this.

Good bye coach Mac.

I really want everone to understand how bad South Dakota State is. I've lived in South Dakota for most of my life and have been a Cyclone fan all my life. South Dakota State just recently moved to the D-1 level. They have really struggled with recruiting since this move. The big discussion around here is that they(SDSU) can't get the players they need to compete at the level they moved to. They still have D-II type players. Anyone who doesn't think so, just look at their record the last couple of years. Don't kid yourself on this....SDSU does not have anyone on their team that any Big 12 school even recruited. If you think that getting recruits to come to Ames, IA is tough, think about trying to get them to come to Brookings, SD. Brookings is a town of about 10,000 people and basketball is not their number one sport. They have absolutely no fan base when it comes to mens basketball. Why, because they are horrible and nobody here in South Dakota wants to drive to Brookings to watch SDSU get blown out by 20 every game.

I hope everyone realizes that coach Mac is way out of his league at ISU and should be back were he belongs, the MVC. Once again, SDSU will finish in the bottom of their conference AGAIN this year and they are a very, very, very bad team. Come on JP, get a real basketball coach in here.....we the fans and players deserve better.

SDCYFAN

I hate to interrupt a good pity party so it should be sufficient to state that some (not all) of your facts and conclusions are incorrect. SDSU's men's program has an excellent tradition but we've really struggled in the DI transition. We are exactly the kind of team that makes college hoops so much fun: we're going to surprise some people this season because we are not quite as bad as SDCYFAN may think.

Let's give Greg another 15 months... If he can't get it done within that time frame(improvement is all I ask), I say we give Coach Dags a shot(rotflmao). We know Coach Dags likes to gamble, but why don't you give us your full credentials? Your a contender....

I mean't to not give up so damn easily, which they do the coaches need to instill some kind of fire in these boys to go out on the floor and want it.

Tough time to make this kind of decision, but it is simply not working. The players we have are not responding to GMAC, and quite honestly I don't think his heart is in it.

Exactly! And I think that has a lot to do with the numbers of players who have left the program in his three years at the helm. These guys want to play in the NBA. Sticking around here not being developed in this stagnant system is not going to get them there.

End of December and the rest of the season is just playing out the string. AGAIN.

Seems to me that in Colvin, Gilstrap, Kadima and etc, GMac is finally recruiting the guys he wants to.

As painful as that was to watch tonight, I think you're right. Some tremendous help is on the way in the form of Colvin and Gilstrap so I think we all need to suck it up. If we fire GMac now, we'll lose those guys and it will be like GMac's first year all over again.

I'm just hoping that Colvin > Garrett. I love the progress Diante has made versus last year, but he's still just as inconsistent at PG as Brackins is at PF.
