However, we still have athletes who play for this school without getting any compensation, just for the love of the game.

My wife and I have thousands of dollars worth of student loans that says they are very well compensated. The walk-ons even get jersey chasers for crying out loud.

We haven't had a strong inside player since Homan.....and how many years ago did he graduate? There is absolutely no muscle on this team, but especially in the post. We cannot overpower anyone physically, and get our lunch handed to us the entire B12 season. And Brackins, he would do so much better if there strong physical presence along with him on the front line.

Look at our front line players compared to the other B12 leaders....we are way too skinny

ding.ding.ding. we have a winner. ISU does NOT have better talent than SDSU, Iowa or Drake. That's why we lost those games. All of those teams have better post players than ISU. Cordova (SDSU), Tate (Iowa) and Cox (Drake) are all better overall shooters and rebounders than Brackins. More importantly, they know their role on the team and they don't put up stupid f----- shots! The only thing Brackins does better is dunk, but he's not always consistent at doing that.

McDermott can coach, but he obviously can't recruit or evaluate talent. And now the team seems to have lost its fire. Why they continue to force the ball into Brackins, I have no idea. Brackins gets owned anytime he faces a guy who weighs more than him like he did tonight against Cordova (6'7" 245lbs). Time to go with the youth movement and give Hamilton and Mann a chance. Brackins has become a head case. And Garrett still isn't strong enough to finish half of his layups.

Does anyone here honestly think we will get there under McDermott? If you do, you must either a)be lying, or b)see the wrong in nothing. I just don't see it. I think we have the talent....coach just needs to change his ways.

I apologize for going off--I'm just pissed. I hear what you are saying. Wayne Morgan isn't the reason we're not improving now (maybe year 1 or 2, but really, year 3?).

What would be worse if we did fire him? Would we lose to another team like this? Would we have a chance to win more games?

I was willing to give the guy 4 years. I still am. I don't see that anything is getting better, and it needs to.

Again, 4 years, but we'd better be NCAA bound next year.

I agree. 4 years is the statement year. I'm extremely dissapointed so far but I can't believe the amount of "See You Mac" "Goodbye Mac" "Fire Mac" threads and posts. No coach will want to coach at Iowa State if we set a trend of firing coaches after 3 years. We'll probably lose almost all of our recruits and then we'll have to sit through 3 more years of terrible basketball, at least. I'd rather give a guy tell year 4 and see what he can do with the players he finally wants on his team, instead of inheriting or arriving very late in the recruiting period.

yea JT the III knew that he was going to run a slow offense and recruited players that fit his system. seems to me like MAC recruits a big guy, and people that like to jack up threes. There is no movement in gmac's offense where georgetown's offense is all based on movement and backdoor cuts.
Seems to me that in Colvin, Gilstrap, Kadima and etc, GMac is finally recruiting the guys he wants to.

I appreciate your loyalty, but unfortunately JP burned my only 'free pass'. Perhaps I'd be more lenient if he didn't pull the trigger so soon on Dan Mac and Morgan and instead given them a 1-year conditional probation. After all, we were only 1-year away from a Bowl game and the Big Dance with both coaches. Now, our two big money makers are probably going in the red next year.

If we finish last in the MBB B12 this year, I do not want JP with the responsibility of hiring another coach.

???

Yeah, that's how I'd want to coach...with a noose around my neck and somebody ready to the kick the box out from under me.

I don't know if Greg is the answer. But I certainly want to keep the recruits we have coming in. How do you propose we do something different and not lose those recruits?

I'm convinced that McDermott is the wrong guy for the job. That being the case, we only dig a bigger hole the longer we stay with him.

I think I'm in denial alaskaguy? I wasn't thrilled with hire because I can't stand teams that live and die by the three. That's what his teams did at UNI. Sure they went to 3 straight NCAA's, but if you watched the games against Georgia Tech and Georgetown they should have won those games.

I want SO BADLY for GMac to succeed, but his gametime decisions are just plain awful....at least Morgan had a plan (Curtis and Will, do what you want).

This is not on the players whatsoever, this is on GMac and staff. Our players are better than SDSU, Hawaii, and Drake.

Youth movement? We're starting 3 sophomores.....

Good bye coach Mac.

I really want everone to understand how bad South Dakota State is. I've lived in South Dakota for most of my life and have been a Cyclone fan all my life. South Dakota State just recently moved to the D-1 level. They have really struggled with recruiting since this move. The big discussion around here is that they(SDSU) can't get the players they need to compete at the level they moved to. They still have D-II type players. Anyone who doesn't think so, just look at their record the last couple of years. Don't kid yourself on this....SDSU does not have anyone on their team that any Big 12 school even recruited. If you think that getting recruits to come to Ames, IA is tough, think about trying to get them to come to Brookings, SD. Brookings is a town of about 10,000 people and basketball is not their number one sport. They have absolutely no fan base when it comes to mens basketball. Why, because they are horrible and nobody here in South Dakota wants to drive to Brookings to watch SDSU get blown out by 20 every game.

Now, on to ISU. Coach Mac's style of play "allows" teams like SDSU and others to compete with us. I'll be honest that when coach Mac was hired I was really excited because his Northern Iowa teams played the style of basketball that would allow them to keep it close with the big boys. His style is a slow down, make the other team play defense and work the shot clock, and try to play good defense type of play with less talented players. He does not attack the opposition whatsoever, nor do these players we have deserve to play in a style like Mac's. Our players are way too talented to be put in hand cuffs like Mac does to these boys. Coach Mac, you are ruining these players careers and they deserve better.

I hope everyone realizes that coach Mac is way out of his league at ISU and should be back were he belongs, the MVC. Once again, SDSU will finish in the bottom of their conference AGAIN this year and they are a very, very, very bad team. Come on JP, get a real basketball coach in here.....we the fans and players deserve better.

SDCYFAN

I completly agree 100%

So no one will take our $1 million+ to coach in one of the premier leagues in the country? By the way, basketball is not like football, a decent coach should be able to turn a program around in 2-3 years.

or C) smarter than you:wink:

I've yet to see that talent on the floor. I don't know if Mac can get it done, but I'm willing to bet another year on it rather then screwing our program over for the next 3 years, minimum.

We'll be lucky to win 13 or 14 games this year. Mac should have brought in a Juco wing player for this year.
Really...perhaps if he did it might help. I kind of feel like we should have enough talent to win these kind of games...with ease. It's not happening. So what makes you think bringing in a talented wing would help that much? Coaching.?

What's happened to our solid BB tradition? At least we were starting to have tradition. The last 3 to 8 years, not so much.

I'd give you rep, but I already did. More than anything, this program (and athletic department) needs stability right now.

Playing devil's advocate, but, at the cost of what, though? We're the worst (or close) Big 12 team, close to the worst in the state, and the program has stagnated at best.

Can you name another major conference team where the fans wouldn't be calling for the coaches head with the results that we are having in year 3?

Do you really think at this level that coaches don't anticipate getting fired if they can't get their teams to perform?
