Really stupid taunting call.

They say it's celebration because he broke stride, changed speed slightly and did a bit of a skip. No, it's not excessive to us, but to that dumb ass ref in the moment it does so why argue?

It’s not excessive to anyone who watches actual football games. That call is never made, for good reason. Hell it was barely even a celebration.
 
Not to defend the ref because the call was weak AF but context is important… the game was getting very chippy in the 2nd QTR and IMO the refs decided to get control of this at halftime. Who knows how much chatter was going on and what they were saying in the lead up to this play.

I didn’t feel like it got chipper until after that. Just a lot of good, hard hitting.

It definitely made it worse. And it absolutely set to crowd to ‘hostile’.

But there were a lot of after the play skirmishes and players needing separated late in the 2nd QTR. the announcers even commented on it a couple times.

It doesn’t matter though. It was not even close to excessive celebration by the usual standards.
