2021 Ryder Cup

We were dropped off and had been told you couldn't get any closer than the rideshare lot. Who knows if that was true. But with all the buses they should have had a dedicated bus route and they didn't. There was still all kinds of cross traffic that caused the bits to sit for a long, long time.

Ya that wasnt true at all. I actually drove by the rideshare lot on Friday to the south lot. Also the only reason I figured this out is because I followed the PGA's directions on Wednesday and got caught in traffic. Said screw it on Friday and followed GPS and it worked out

Even though they're bad at Ryder Cup golf, it feels really strange to call a team without Phil or Tiger the most talented US team ever put together.

I mean it could be true, but I think they have more majors wins than all of the other golfers on both teams combined.

Regardless, it's certainly the best performing team the US has put out in a while, though the players Europe has relied on to give us the asswhoopings the last couple decades are finally getting too old to play anymore which helps make the score look better.

IMO, Ryder cup teams are about depth rather than having a couple superstars. The world rankings and major records of this year's team is pretty ridiculous.

This.

Case and point: they (Europe) had the #1 golfer in the world…. And got completely owned.

Uh, Poulter, Garcia and Hatton are about as unlikeable as they come on the course. Fitzpatrick also seems pretty whiney.

I'm pretty well out on Bryson and Brooks but everyone else for USA is likable enough for me.

Seems to me both teams are made up of about 75% likeable guys and 25% tools.

Hatton ******* rocks. I could watch him all day. Sergio can be a ***** but on this week every other year, he's as good as it gets and something about coming from being average to being an absolute rock for this event makes me root for him. I used to hate Poulter but I've come around. He's done now, but he's the guy you hate if he's not on your team.

The US team is much more likeable now. They have some personality and some spark and hey, even Bryson was likeable this week. Maybe I'll be changing my alliances in the future given the complete roster overhaul.

I went Friday and had an absolute blast. It's a must-attend event for a golf fan.

Only downside was it was a logistical nightmare getting there. We got dropped off in the rideshare lot and were on the bus an hour and forty five minutes before we got to the venue. Our ride back was only about 15. I have no idea what the cause was but man was that frustrating.
When I went to Hazeltine, getting there was by FAR the most frustrating thing about the whole day. I think we parked in a casino parking lot and then had to wait in a long ass line to get on a bus, then sit on a bus forever to get there. It didn't seem to make a lot of sense at the time why they were doing it the way they did it but I get it's a logistical nightmare. I would guess with Whistling Straits being hugged up again Lake Michigan, the traffic and logistics would be even worse.

I thought for the Euros to win Rahm, Rory, Lowry, and Sergio had to play 5 and play well then they need at least 2 other guys to hold their own. There just wasn't much of a chance that Westwood, Fitzy and Poulter were going to gain points. It wouldn't have mattered but Padraig had to be ready to ride his horses for 5. The US, on the other hand, could sit everyone because the worst guy was Harrison English who's been better than all but one Euro this year. Rome will be different because of the course, but the Euros better hope 4-5 guys emerge if they want a chance to win because there's a solid chance that the US roster is basically the same by then. There will be a couple changes, for sure, but the core isn't going anywhere and this core will fit a Euro setup way better than in the past. Almost all of these can play anywhere.

I came away almost kind of liking Bryson as well.

The only thing I didn't like was whining about not being given putts. I don't know why giving putts is even a thing. If you don't like them not giving you a 3 footer just don't give it to them next time. But the whole "showing the putter grip" thing is silly, just make it.

Agree. "Gimmies" in golf never made sense to me, unless it's like 3 inches. If it's really a "gimmie" you should have no problem tapping it in. I guess the argument is gimmies can speed up play, but if it's actually a tap in, it should only take a second or two to knock it in anyway.

I think most golfers like gimmies because they know they'll actually miss 10-25% of their putts from 2-3 feet.

I guess I can understand the common understanding if you're out with friends of picking up anything inside 3 feet. Golf is infuriating enough-- let's not make it worse by missing a 2 footer. But these are professional golfers, in a professional golfing event, where in no other tournament setting are you allowed to just pick up a putt. Just putt it out like you do in any other tournament.

I'm not a great putter (weakest spot of my game), but I always want to putt them out. I need the practice.

Did Bryson or either of the other two guys that did it even make a comment or just do the putter thing?

If it was Tiger we would all think he was playing mind games with the opponent. Or just having fun.

Give it a couple weeks. I hope he learns what makes people dislike him because I don't think he's that bad of a guy when he's just himself.

That’s his problem.
EDIT: I have NO idea how this ended up in this post. I think I was going to make a point about how Bryson doesn’t even know who he is, which makes him socially awkward, or something, but I had decided not to. Now that I have this multi-quote going, I had to address it :D

Bryson did it and was full on serious when he did (not to mention he has a longer than normal putter too). . After that, a few other guys, on both sides, did it in jest/having fun.
