(Non-Spoilery Thoughts) So, I saw Suicide Squad last night and had quite the good time. Honestly, with a movie like this one, I'm not sure how you can't. It's fun, hilarious, creative, unpredictable, heartfelt, well-written, colorful, visually stunning, and about everything else you'd want from a good summer blockbuster. There will be parts in this movie you won't be able to stop laughing, so I'd recommend seeing it in theaters to relish in that experience. Honestly, due to the bonkers nature of it, as well as its fresh comedy, it's hard not to compare it to Deadpool when it too first came out. No, they are not the same movies, nor are they copies in any way of one another, but I think much of the audience reaction will be the same. Clearly with both, the directors were given free rein to do pretty much whatever they wanted and this is an example of a very favorable outcome. When Gunn talks about how much fun he had making this, it's hard not to believe him once you see the movie.

So, is it my new favorite DCEU movie? No, probably not, but it's without a doubt one of the better ones. I'm also not sure my own personal tastes would allow it to ever slip into #1 on that list anyway. However, I could see other people whose tastes align more to this movie throw it as their #1. Anyway, for what it is worth, the following is my updated DCEU movie list for anyone interested:

  1. Wonder Woman
  2. Man of Steel
  3. Zack Snyder's Justice League
  4. The Suicide Squad
  5. Aquaman
  6. Shazam
  7. Justice League (theatrical)
  8. Birds of Prey
  9. Batman v Superman
  10. Wonder Woman 1984
  11. Suicide Squad

Man, after updated that list, it reminds me of how all over the board the DCEU is on quality. That list both contains some of my favorite superhero movies of all time as well as some of my biggest major disappointments, sometimes even by the same directors. I'm looking at you Zack Snyder and Patty Jenkins.

Really fun movie! Thoroughly enjoyed it. So many great characters. Margot Robbie as Harley is just perfect.

I know I'm pretty much in my own country on this one, but while she looks good in the role, I've actually considered Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn to be one of the most overrated comics characters in movie history. Again, she looks great in the role, but I've founded her overacting of the character to be many times unwatchable and just straight annoying. I feel like people get too caught up in her looks to the point where her poor performance gets overlooked. This is also why you guys have likely noticed on here how annoyed I get with the weird fascination that both WB and Margot have to want to make like 30 Harley Quinn spinoff movies, when the one they made drastically underperformed at the box office. People seem more concerned with buying her outfits at Hot Topic than seeing her as the lead in a movie. I'd also argue she is much better suited in a supporting role. WITH THAT SAID, I'll give her credit in this movie. This movie was the first time I actually found her performance and the writing of the character to be quite good. I really did enjoy her in this film FINALLY!!!!

So I'm trying to decide if I should see Suicide Squad or Black Widow tonight, which is better?

Honestly, that is such as tough question as they are two DRASTICALLY different films. It more should be what type of movie you feel like seeing at the time. Ultimately, Suicide Squad is likely the better movie, but I'm more of a Black Widow fan than probably most, so for me, the difference isn't super drastic.

It's been a bit since I've watched the other suicide squad movie but I'm wondering if she gets a boost in people's mind being one of the bright spots in a not great movie? Either way everyone is entitled to their opinion! You're also correct that she looks great ;)

I'm hearing great things about it. I have heard it's a pretty hard R though, am I right about that? I'm guessing probably not the best idea to take my kids.

Yeah, I'd avoid taking kids personally. I'd compare it to a slightly lighter hard R Deadpool.

Sounds like WB plans to make the DC movie0s fit together better, which I'm a big continue the DCEU proponent, so that is music to my ears.

Watched half of it last night but it got late so I’ll have to finish the rest of it later. Being old sucks.

So far it’s been outstanding though. Far gorier than I was expecting. The humor has been top-notch as expected with James Gunn running the show.

I'm late to the party on this one, and this is, I think, my first post in this whole thread, but Wonder Woman 1984 is one of the worst movies I've seen in recent memory. Just terrible all around with little to no redeeming value in it. Just a God awful trainwreck that should not have made it to the green light stage.

I did thoroughly enjoy The Suicide Squad, however.

Yeah, WW 1984 was so much more heartbreaking to me due to how much I absolutely loved the first one. I had a hard time believing both were even directed by the same person, because I could have sworn they weren't.

Yeah, no kidding.

I think it's important to be able to suspend your sense of disbelief when it comes to movies, particularly and especially with comic book movies, but there's a difference between being able to do that and then feeling like you're having your intelligence as a viewer insulted. WW 1984 went way over that fine line. Did turning a jet plane (that they stole from the Smithsonian apparently in full working order) invisible also give it a couple of extra fuel tanks to get from DC all the way to Egypt and back? Just terrible, terrible writing.

I’m probably in the minority here but I thought it was ok. I love Gunns stuff but I felt this lacked the charm of his other movies. It leaned more Slither than Guardians which is fine for the most part. I can’t say I wasn’t entertained, it’s large and vivid. I just wasnt wowed where I immediately want to watch it again. I dunno, maybe it’s one of those that’ll grow on me over time.

Yeah I would say it is not as good as Guardians (IMO). The cast of Guardians is just fantastic and they both are top movies in the MCU.
