So I go on Medicare soon, which means my excellent Wellmark insurance is gone. The med I take for my IPF is expensive - with no prescription coverage at all, the cost is $22,000 per month! - and I have been looking for possibilities.
Boehringer/Ingelheim, the manufacturer, offers financial assistance, and I applied some time ago. Meanwhile, the good people at UIHC (yeah, there are good folks in Iowa City) have also been looking for help.
Yesterday the gal from UIHC called and told me that I had been accepted by some company that gives grants for these types of things, and my co-pay would only be $10 per month. A couple hours later, a rep from B/I called and said they were going to accept my application and pay for the med.
I have to get the two parties together to avoid duplicate prescriptions, but it sure is nice to know I have not only coverage, but a fallback position. I feel very fortunate.
Of course, the vixen suggested I go buy some lottery tickets.
