Pac 12 expansion article

So you think Houston cares about a good UH team but not a good UT team? You don’t need to canvas the same area twice. UH is the least attractive option.
All I’m saying is that Houston would be more valuable to the P12 than ISU. Even though we have better attendance. There’s just not enough people in Iowa. I agree that adding them to the B12 doesn’t make any sense.

personally, I don’t think the next round of conference realignment will amount to much if anything.

I agree with you on the realignment part. It could get interesting if the top 50-60 FB schools decide to split with the NCAA. If that happens I hope we are in a position to go with the big boys. I feel that we are but you never know how that thing would shake out.

Pete Futiak was on Heartland College Sports' podcast, and let me just say this - this was clearly a "throw something against the wall" article. He claims that these schools should go to the Pac 12 to be "bigger". No other explanation. Then he thinks the Big 12 should go after UCF and USF. Dude is just throwing darts.

Honestly it was a painful listen. I applaud Pete Mundo for not verbally body slamming him over and over. Everything Futiak said was dumber than the last thing he said. It was breathtaking.

I don't really see any Big 12 team wanting to leave the conference except one. That would be if the ACC reached out to WV, and I wouldn't blame them for taking it either.
problem for them is their academics are pretty poor for ACC standards...the Big 12 also makes more money than the ACC..but maybe WVU just wants to be with some of their Big East buddies again

The only way Big12 schools move to the Pac12 is if the money is better. Not sure how that happens.

If expansion pops again, Bowlsby needs to show he is an industry leader and the Big12 needs to be an aggressor. IMO the Big12 should go strong after: Colorado, Utah, BYU, Arizona and ASU.

Unlike some, I have no issue approaching Mizzou or Nebraska to gauge their interest in rejoining the Big12.
you think Mizzou or Nebraska want to give up the money they're making though? Mizzou's recruiting is even better simply because they're in the SEC...I wish money wasn't the end all be all in college sports, but it is

Yeah, I just don't see realignment happening again, unless the P5 breaks from the NCAA, expands the CFP to 8, and then does a rationalization of teams/conferences.

They could force ND's hand, bring in a few of the bigger G5s, maybe do some geographic shuffling. So you keep the P5, add about a half-dozen teams, shuffle around maybe a half-dozen more. Everybody's happy except the G5s who get relegated to Triple-A.

Mizzou's best FB success so far in the SEC was with Big 12 recruits, same with TX A&M. Both, as well as Nebraska, would have better served staying put.

I would let them go if they wanted to and just take Memphis or Cincy or both. Id like to add those two even if WV stayed. Memphis is a great city to visit for road games. Being at 10 is nice, though, for schedule format, so if WV left Id prefer just Memphis.

I can definitely see that. PAC 12 getting exposure for recruiting into a major market in Texas makes some sense for them. Houston would definitely be elevated by joining the PAC, I think the jury is out whether they are elevated to the point that they provide a per capita boost to the conference. In the end you are adding an eastern, isolated outpost, and they always have the viewership problem. The rest of the country doesn't see them as much, and even their local regions aren't avid viewers.

The problem the PAC has is that the teams that provide a per capita boost to the conference are limited. And most of those are going to have to take a pay cut to go to the PAC.

PAC is a mess and people need to understand that. They aren't attractive to anybody that is sure to help them.

but I mean the creation of the LHN pretty much drove those 4 schools out
LHN was only a factor for A&M and it shouldn't have been in hindsight. Texas FB quality has actually declined since LHN. And Gene Stallings had previously laid the groundwork for A&M's move to the SEC prior to LHN in conjunction with the SEC's desire to expand their SECN footprint. LHN was the "excuse" to finalize that move.

Nebraska left due to Tom Osborne's hate against Texas and it wasn't due to LHN, it dated back to the elimination of partial qualifiers that started the demise of NU FB. Other Big 8 schools like ISU also voted to eliminate them so Texas shouldn't have been the sole focus of Ozzy's hate.

And both CU and Mizzou primarily left for due to other factors not directly related to LHN.

A&M leaving should of been surprised to no one. They feel they are better and above all things.
