@Cyclones_R_GR8 , I would highly advise taking up golf. It's relaxing....I always mix up a big Thermos of vodka and tonic to take along. Helps me relax. ;)
I was never one to drink when golfing. There were a couple of guys here in Omaha that if I golfed with I would end up drinking as those two drank like crazy.

I rarely golf although I have debated getting into it more. When I do though I enjoy a drink or two but rarely have time to drink as there is barely enough time between my shots to drink.

Well I think I'm supposed to congratulate you for getting a job offer. So congrats. You never know when part time may switch or lead to a connection that leads to a job you really enjoy.

Thanks.
In the academic world, this just crosses another school off the potential list. When you adjunct somewhere, there's barely over a 0% chance that it opens the door there, and I won't be meeting anyone along the way. Just a mercenary going in, teaching a night class, and going home.

It's a pretty bad system. Everyone involved knows it, but it's not changing.

I haven't played golf in years. Sometimes I wonder if I should start again when I retire.

I quit a few years back. Sorta lost my local golfing buddies and didn't like diving a million miles to where the work league played. Plus rotator cuff was making it problematic. Cuff is rehabbed enough that I can probably swing clubs and been thinking of at least trying the short 9-hole executive course that's only four miles away. Nice municipal course and it won't eat up half a day like playing 18 somewhere. Maybe the old ladies will let me walk a round with them since I cut my hair and look less like a homeless guy now.

I knew a guy and his dad that had lifetime memberships at State Center. I used to play with them quite a bit. If his dad wasn't there we would play like 36 holes.

When I used to golf (VERY infrequently) I noticed that my terrible game improved modestly when I got a couple of drinks in me - then if I ventured a couple of sips more past the sweet spot it quickly dropped off the cliff. I suppose relaxed is a good thing but too relaxed is another story.

We usually go with my in-laws once or twice a year. I currently just have a hand-me-down set of clubs but have debated taking them into Play-It-Again Sports to get a more updated better sized set for myself just to have.

Mine approaches antique status. Anymore sets have "drivers" but mine has honest to god "woods". I have added a metal 1, 3 and 7 "wood". I loved that 7 for getting out of jams in the rough - which happened a lot.

My grandma's old set was like that and I used to use those but I think we ended up putting those in the estate sale.

Will give a plug for NOrth Iowa golf in Mason City. Had a couple of my wife’s clubs regripped and saw they had nice set of used Ping irons for 175-250. Solid set of you find a driver a rescue and lower wood

I'm not a golfer but that was how I played pool at the bars. I started out decent but not great, get better and start hitting some really good shots after hitting my sweet spot of inebriation and then get worse than I started as I kept drinking.

Now that I think about it I was the same way with darts. It just took more beer to hit the wall with darts.
