Dropped my tax stuff off yesterday, supposed to pick it up today.
I should get a refund because one distribution I got in 2019 didn't take any taxes out. I held out extra on another distribution but that ended up not getting done until 2020.
Of course that meant I had to pay in last year to both Federal and State

Loved the last few mornings of waking up with the windows open and hearing the birds or waking up at 2AM to an owl hooting away.

I'm always gladdened by the sounds of birds singing. It's almost as if they're heralding the arrival of spring. The house finches in particular have such a pretty song.

Well for those of you looking for something to do Fri nite, the Tama Ballroom is hosting Extreme Dwarfanators wrestling. Tkts are $20-40 pre show add $5 at the door. A bargain at either price :D

Kids were messing around. Pulled up country rap as a joke on YouTube. One had vanilla ice and the ninja turtles in it. We watched out of wonderment. We were speechless.

We now have at least two white squirrels in the neighborhood. We spied them at the neighbors' across the street yesterday on our walk. This morning I was at the kitchen sink and I pointed out one of them in our backyard by a maple. I looked down at the sink only to hear everyone in the kitchen gasp. Apparently an owl or hawk came swooping across the yard and just missed taking the albino tree rat right off the maple's tree trunk.

This guy missed all of it.
One of our barred owls scared the crap out of me a year or so ago. My desk is 2 feet from a sliding glass door leading to a balcony that's about 8ft deep. The owl swooped down & snagged a squirrel off the railing, about 10 feet away from me. The door was open with the screen closed...that damn thing was LOUD!!!

So, because I'm two-faced as can be:
1. There's some training thing I'm supposed to do for DMACC. Since I'm not on contract, I'm blowing it off.
2. DMACC sent out a sign-up for faculty and spouses to be vaccinated, so we set rev up with that.

I've been chuckling at myself all day. Don't worry, I paid for it with a closing shift tonight of 4 people, rather than our usual 7 or 8. I guess it all worked out.

Thought some of you in the Fort Dodge area would enjoy this...

Picked up my taxes, how the **** did I get an $8k refund?
After thinking about it and what the H&R Block guy showed me.
When mom passed there was an RMD scheduled for December that we had to take. They didn't hold out any taxes. So when I was doing the paperwork for the rest of my portion of that account I had them hold out about 35% in federal taxes to make sure the other one was covered. That ended up being on the 2020 income while the RMD was on the 2019 income.
Then I also upped my 401k in 2020 and according to the schedule K there was a loss that I was able to deduct the maximum $3k. I guess that all lowered my tax bracket enough along with the extra withheld to make that difference.
I was really only expecting about $2k.

I just looked through the tax stuff quickly and I think they screwed up.
I need to sit and take a closer look because it just doesn't make sense.

Edit - After going through it closer it does seem to add up correctly. It just doesn't seem real clear on the actual return.

I think I need to do a better job of continuing this ongoing conversation. Sorry that I've been a non-poster recently.

How about this? I put the periwinkle outside a couple of days ago and it perked right up. :D

I'll probably pinch it back a bit to get it to fill back out. The straggly look was exacerbated by the fact that I didn't realize Lew put it on the seat, not the floor, and I had to hit the brakes when an idiot dove out in front of me. Well, at least he vacuumed my car for me. ;)

The idiot vacuumed out your car?

That was nice of him.
