Would Ben Jacobson interviewing with Minny over the weekend be at all related to Jake looking around and some staff looking as well? Just trying to connect dots...

Ben Johnson interviewed and got the job. Did Ben Jacobsen interview as well?

All coaches need an X's and O's guy. There's too much going on in a game to be the only one drawing up plays. Someone's gotta be getting the team ready when you're chewing refs' asses for the BS calls in Lawrence.

That’s going to be a nice change from Prohm handing prayer cards to the refs instead of verbally abusing them like a true competitor does.

Jacobson did indeed interview for Minnesota. Confirmed by multiple people in and around UNI.

Would not shock me from talking to people around UNI if Kyle made the move to Ames. He is a very, very good Xs and Os guy and has great recruiting connections in Iowa. He could absolutely help TJ lock down the state and there's some really, really good talent in the state for the next 5 or 6 years.

This is a move for putting the right staff together long term for Iowa State and doesn't have as much to do with one year of AJ. In fact, I've talked to people that fully believe that if Kyle goes, AJ may decide to stay in Cedar Falls assuming Jake doesn't go anywhere. It's more likely that AJ's sister Emerson transfers to play at Iowa State and she would certainly help there. She's really good.

Any reason Jacobson interviewed for Minnesota? Always assumed he was waiting for Wisco to open or maybe a Virginia type school.

Why do people constantly claim TJ needs an "X&O" guy? He only got hired at two schools on his own merits to be head coach. All coaches need/want assistants with basketball minds. You need that at every level but it's like people were looking for some place to criticize so they made up the X & O thing.

I think it's just easy to put coaching into two big boxes - recruiting and Xs and Os. We know TJ can recruit, so people just assume he must be weak in the latter because he's not an elite coach (at least not yet), but I think that's a pretty oversimplified view.

First, it's not as simple as getting an assistant that's an ace recruiter or Xs and Os guy. Those guys are usually already HCs by now.

If TJ can recruit like most of us believe he can, and he can get our guys just to execute simple things like what do you do if you are wing off the ball while there's a high PnR, ISU will be solid. Plays are very overrated in basketball. Ability for 5 guys to read and react to a situation correctly and at the right time is very underrated.

It's a P5 job in region for a guy that grew up in North Dakota and has spent the last 20 years in Iowa. I think it was geographic and the fact that with the way the Big Ten is officiated that he can go back to playing defense the way he wants to play it (physical, grabbing, holding, Big Ten style).

Remember that the Valley shares refs with the Big 12 and, of course, games are called the same way. It doesn't always work with what he wants to do.

Add AJ Green (MVC POY) and hold onto Tyrese Hunter that backcourt could be looking pretty damn good next year.

Tyrese Hunter
Rasir Bolton
AJ Green

Where are all the there is no way we make the tournament next year crowd?

*Transfers get immediate eligibility next year due to COVID rules, correct? If not, you'd assume AJ may have a case for a waiver coming back from injury and wanting to play for his Dad.

Keep it rollin TJ!

The problem is the Big 12 is really good, but the AJ injury might really give us an in to make that happen. Gotta think he wants to test his chops at the P6 level after seeing how an injury can really cut your time to play down.
