Can put one thing to rest tonight?

From the googles:

nep·o·tism:

noun

  1. the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.

Depends on the site you reference.

Nepotism is a form of favoritism which is granted to relatives in various fields, including business, politics, entertainment, sports, religion and other activities. The term originated with the assignment of nephews to important positions by Catholic popes and bishops.

I think this is why I’m struggling a bit. This league is filled with elite coaches. Top notch, expert coaches. So as much potential as he may have the “not sure if he can coach“ disclaimer is troublesome..
Hopefully the money JP saved on him can go to getting quality experienced assistants.

Yep. We’ll know after year one how it’s going to go. He’s got a monumental task in front of him.
TJ was, to be honest, my last choice for this job. However, I don’t think winning at Iowa State is by any means “a monumental task.” This job has a lot going for it and even a poor coach like Steve Prohm was able to take us to three tournament berths in his first four years.

We are to UNLV what Creighton was to us. They are going to love ISU forever. For those of you going to Vegas for the game this year prepare to have MANY beers purchased for you.

Prohm wasn’t handed 2-22/0-18.

I think there's a reason so many people throughout and around the program have such a high level of respect for TJ. Obviously a great recruiter, and has some head coaching under his belt. Less of a flyer than it would have been 6 years ago. Prebuilt with connections and local knowledge. Hard to imagine a guy that could get up and running faster.

And I bet he won’t get that at Iowa state in 5 years. He won’t have mike daum.

Daum is the SDSU Player that TJ turned into a Conference Player of the Year who unfortunately did not have enough talent to make the NBA. Sounds like some good Coaching.

Webster defines nepotism as favoritism based on kinship. Kin being family I award the point to you sir.

This reminds me of throwing up a 28 foot jump shot 4 seconds into the shot clock. We can get that shot whenever.

Worked for Hoiball.

I get that, but I also see this year being crazy with he transfer portal. Having a guy in place as early as possible will be important to do well in retaining guys and bringing in new guys. You're going to see a lot of movement over the next month. Don't waste 2 weeks of that month in a coaching search if you're confident with your guy.

For those who will not like any hire. Here's another perspective:

There's almost no way for a coach to come in and have a season as bad as what we just had. There's only looking up!

:jimlad: but also, kind of true in a very sad way.

Just for kicks and giggles, you folks that are pissing about the timeline; suppose JP went to his lake home the next 4 days with three cases of beer. During that time he periodically floats out some rumors that are typical in these searches. Meanwhile TJ our coach in waiting goes on a recruiting excursion. He is free from NCAA violations because he would not be recruiting for UNLV. At the end of it all TJ becomes our next men’s basketball coach. Is this now a better process? Or should we just get it on down the road since it is inevitable.
