I had this long, drawn out post about how this hire could put Pollard on the ISU Mt Rushmore and I didn’t think he’d rush to hire TJ.

And then he turns around and hires TJ 22 hours later...
Me too, on this feeling. I thought Pollard was going to go the distance and hire a fresh face. Count me surprised.

Happening so quickly, I think it was a done deal before it even started. That's what is most disappointing.

There has to be more to this story. A tag-along recruit or two? Diminished buyout by UNLV? Verbal re-commitment by our current recruits, Hunter, Nunn? Our freshman Center likes?

His first two classes will be make or break. I don't see TJ as an X's & O's master who will way overachieve with inferior talent. But I do believe he's capable of winning if he can rebuild the 4-year talent base.

He needs to land a foundation with kids in the 70-125 range who will stay for 3-4 years. He will also need to infuse some good transfer talent.

Basically, he has to do what Fred did in his first 2-3 years.

One thing in Otz’s favor is that the transfer market is going to be insane this year and likely next b/c of Covid transfer rules and restrictions that made face to face and on-campus recruiting harder. If Otz is as great a recruiter and scout of transfer talent as we think, that could make the timing of his hire very fortuitous.

Here's the thing, if he waited just a week, we could at least believe that we were trying to get a successful coach.

And Jamie could say that he interviewed a few people and interviewed TJ and felt that TJ's knowledge of Iowa State and the myth of how hard it is to recruit here made him believe TJ was the best choice. And I'm a sucker, so I'd buy it.

Instead Jamie will say that he's watched TJ for 15 years. And he recruited every single good player that has ever played at Iowa State. And he's married to a former WBB player. And he loves Iowa State (until the Wisconsin job opens up). And I'm a sucker, so I'll buy it, but not as much as if I believed he looked at other options.

I want to reiterate that absolutely nothing has been confirmed here. There is one story that was written and there's already another report out of Vegas with conflicting information. People have either retweeted the original story or regurgitated the same information, which is not the same as confirming. There is nothing confirmed at this point and to call anything official is disingenuous at best. When there is something to confirm, I can promise you we'll let you know. We're very much not there yet.
Do you have several stories written for when the next coach is announced or just one? So it can be posted immediately after Pollard announced.

Testifying
Hey folks, lets at least let him assemble a staff and team, and coach a few games before ripping him apart.
With that sentiment, Chris said on the podcast that he was aware of what TJs staff could have been six years ago at ISU and it was very impressive.

This is far too much living in the reality that none of us can do anything about what happens regarding Iowa State basketball.

As Jamie said today, we are low on money. He trusts his gut. And his gut says TJ.

I'm 42 and we've never been a football school. I'll trade some ****** basketball years in order to keep football rolling.

You don't think there's another coach at a school we can hire for a "budget" hire? Come on. There are plenty of coaches out there, good ones, you don't have to break the bank for. You think you need to pay Craig Smith $3.5M/year to start? Come on now.

What I think and want is besides the point. I didn't like how it was handled in 2015 and how it was handled this time.

Listen to TJ's friends. They LOVE him. Jamie obviously LOVES him. They are probably on to something.
