JStanz article

I know this meme gets passed around, but was the '19 team really the most talented in the conference?

I do not think so. Not really even close. I'll just use Texas Tech as an example.

Weiler-Babb = good college player, overseas player now
Haliburton = obviously turning into a monster, but he was a barely 18-year old freshman at the time
Shayok = had a cup of coffee in the NBA, D-League player
Horton-Tucker = similar to Haliburton... oozed talent but was still barely 18 years old at the time
Jacobson = okay college player with talent around him, overseas guy
---
Wigginton = D-League guy
Lard = obviously talented but a complete headcase, not sure where he even ended up

Compare that to Texas Tech that same year...

Mooney = fifth-year senior, ended up a D-League guy (so Mooney > Nick)
Moretti = now one of the better players in Europe
Culver = second-team AA, Big 12 CPOTY, lottery pick (6th overall)
Odiase = fifth-year senior, briefly in the D-League and now in Europe
Owens = fifth-year senior, now in the D-League
---
Francis = briefly in the D-League, now in Europe
Edwards = didn't find anything
Corprew = didn't find anything

That Texas Tech squad was more talented and experienced, top-to-bottom, than we were, especially considering that our two most talented players (Haliburton and Horton-Tucker) we just babies at the time.

You know how it is on the Internet, Chris --

Nuance isn't just rejected but actively resented. Trying to explain things just gets you a whiny "tl;dr" back.
Phil Jackson.
With Pat Riley and Steve Kerr as assistants.
Have some journalistic integrity and provide some substance as to why you think Fred coming back is unrealistic... people have been beating around the bush for the last 6 years. At this point, it just looks like there's a bunch of people still butt-hurt he left is the only reason Fred wouldn't come back.
Here's why I think it is unrealistic...I don't think Pollard is going make one of the dumbest financial decisions in the history of the planet and pay NU $10,250,000 for the privilege of hiring a coach who has won 5 conference games and finished in last place over the last two years.
I thought I read recently of Fred's 7 year deal with NU, the 5 years now remaining has a buyout of about 15-17 million. I could be wrong. Anyway it's a lot.
That's a valid argument although Stansbury seems to be suggesting other reasons. I would like to know what those reasons are rather than getting this continuous "haha, not gonna happen" response every time Fred is mentioned as a candidate. Like do Fred and JP not get along? Is Fred upset they closed the Taco Time?
Not sure of any other reason than the large buyout. Unaware of any friction between JP and Fred. Perhaps JP didn't take a shine to Fred wanting to test the waters (NBA) and having his foot half-way out the door last year or two?

Hoiberg’s buyout, should he leave Nebraska for another coaching job at the Division I ranks, would be as follows:

  • $11.5 million after Year 1
  • $10.25 million after Year 2
  • $8.75 million after Year 3
  • $7 million after Year 4
  • $5.25 million after Year 5
  • $0 after Years 6 and 7

Good to know. It'd be nice if one of these guys who makes a living off covering ISU basketball could actually write an article with that information rather than put out a half-baked article listing the candidates that we've already been talking about for the past few months.

For what it is worth, I have a roughly 8,000 word article I’ve been working on for four days with that information that will run if/when Iowa State doesn’t have a basketball coach.

Maybe 125 could job shadow you for a few days? I’m sure you need a coffee boy

People complain when I write more than ~200 words on here.

You weren't doing housework, you were in your DeLorean to snap that picture for you article on December 2nd, 2021. Looks like Prohm will still be the head coach next year.;)
I noticed the same thing and meant to comment, then got caught in a time warp and forgot.

Probably more like Fred wanted to leave and doesn't want to come back. Plus, it would be a giant leap of faith to hire him at this point and hope he gets his mojo back. Third, it would be a waste of $15 mil. 5 for CSP and 10 for the university of Nowledge.

Some people say this is not true.

Nate Oats will pull you if you take a long jump shot. Fred was adamant about long jumpers being the worst shot in basketball. Prohm applauds his guys.

We’ve seen more terrible, contested long jumpers this season than in Fred’s 5 years combined. I scream at the TV each time but there are literally no consequences so they keep going up (and missing).

obligatory TL/DR. ;)
