Anyone else hearing that JP has already decided Prohm is coming back?

But it's still Nebrasketball

I guess, but it’s low pressure, well supported gig. All the markings of making your mark on a program with zero tradition.

Heck, Fred worked with GarPax for 4 years, I think he can handle the AD at NU. Unless Fred has a history of not getting along with management, which is more an indication of an issue with Fred, more than anything.

it would be hysterical to see the meltdown if he is retained. This site would literally explode.

but the decision has been made. Hell gunner’s grandmother has already spoken, and Fred is coming home.

the next chance for meltdown will be if Fred isn’t introduced as the head coach.

No, it would be embarrassing for the school and the fan base. You are correct, this site would go crazy, and it should. It would send the message that ISU no longer cares about men's basketball.

For Pollard to make the decision to retain Prohm after what he has done the last 3 years would be putting the pressure on Pollard. A dangerous position for an AD to be in, betting his job maybe or at least pissing off the large donors, to keep Prohm around for another year. If that would happen, then Prohm would have to win next year, and win big.

Again with the no nuance thing. But okay I’ll bite, give us your list. If Belein and Matta are on it then preemptively **** off.
I'm open to nuance, I like nuance. But come on. Yes, Hoiberg is facing difficulties at Nebraska. There are a lot of excuses you can make for his bad performance there. But many of those excuses you can make for Prohm's last two years, too. Lost a ton of talent to graduation/NBA from 18-19 to 19-20, pandemic in 20-21. The best returning players we did have in 19-20 were injured. Both Hoiberg and Prohm were basically starting fresh in 19-20 and had to bring in all new players. But we (rightfully) don't cut Prohm a massive break for those circumstances. I'm not willing to cut Hoiberg one either. I'll give him a little more slack than Prohm because he had a shortened recruiting cycle in his first year, but not much.

To be perfectly honest with you, I don't have a list. I don't usually go out looking for ideas of who might be a good next coach, usually I wait for the media outlets and/or the message boards to put out the list of likely candidates and then make a decision of who I want based on that. So far, I haven't seen any names floated out there that I particularly like. Out of the two that everyone bring up (Hoiberg, Otzelberger) I prefer Otzelberger because the success he's had as a head coach is more recent and his recent performance is mediocrity rather than complete failure, but I'm not particularly excited about him and hope that someone else is the actual choice.

That said, I agree with (what I assume is) your argument that Belein and Matta are probably not great picks. The sport is starting a major change and those two are at the end of their career. Matta is probably retired for good and even if he was coaching I'm not interested in watching his style of ball. Belein would probably be a good coach, but may not be a good choice if we're looking toward the future.

The ideal candidate to me is a younger winning coach at a lower "high major" or midmajor, or a top assistant at a winning P6 school. Someone with a resume like Steve Prohm of 2015 is the type of candidate I'd like to see. Up and coming head coach of a very successful mid/low major team, track record of developing point guards into NBA talent even at a small school, which suggested he could work well with top level talent. Some coaches have a style that can only work at a mid major, which seems to have been McDermott's problem here. Obviously, Prohm's time here needs to come to an end. But, I'd like someone with a resume like his when he was hired.

A younger coach who connects with the players would be a good hire. Gosh? Where else has that worked at ISU?

This reminds me of quote in Oceans 11. "So you know a guy". Dont make bold statements like that without first hand info. Dont write checks with your mouth your ass can't cash.
Thanks for the warning Sparky. Now run along and behave yourself

There are lots of posters on here making the same claims. There is a LOT of smoke about Hoiberg leaving NU and possible being in the running to be our coach next year. I would venture to say he probably won't, but anybody can make any "bold statements" they want on here. I would imagine some really do know what they're talking about, many others are just repeating what others have said. You can believe it, or choose not to, but why do you feel the need to act like a jackass about it, though?

It's just a message board with free speech. Don't make a comment like JP has talked to Fred, and Nebby wants to make it happen, without proof. Pretty simple stuff.

The first pendulum swings very soon but even you could probably figure that out with the season coming to a close.
At least I'll admit my comments are personal observations. To think that you have talked to Pollard and he has talked to Fred and he wants back is the only thing I'll believe if Pollard says it. Not you.

I don't think the instinct should be to attack supposed insiders, but there becomes a point where rumors are prevalent enough that anyone can wordsmith a rumor and sound like they're "in the know."

People with legit info tend to just post it and walk away.

Don’t get me wrong, all for this. But the obvious questions exist.
1. why would Fred leave with the best recruiting class NU has, with a 5 star McGowins coming in?
2. Why would he come back with a full rebuild again, under harder circumstances than 2010 and better league all together?

This doesn’t even account for potential issues with the money. Just trying to account for a plausible case to be made.
Because gunner’s grandma says so and because a lot of ISU fans are delusional.

I get it. It sucks that you don’t have any access. But for your info, Fred reached out to JP.....but keep that under your hat because folks might get upset because it isn’t public knowledge
