Go look at the base models.. the only difference is the GMC has chrome trim.. compared to the black plastic on the chevy. Every other part besides trim work is the exact same thing.... they are literally built on the same lines even..

Those are the options that you see as a consumer. The actual recipe of each individual vehicle determines the price. This is not information that is available to the average consumer.

The Sierra has options available that aren't available on even the highest trim level Chevy.

Dude, you have to trust me on this one. They aren't the same thing. This isn't a trick or some secret I am trying to pull over on you. I am on a GM production floor right now.

Getting back to the Kia Telluride, I thought I would look again to see if there were any in Iowa or nearby states. I found one in IC that didn't seem to have bogus charges added to the sticker. I dug a little more and they added a bogus $900 accessory package that was worth about $200. Dug a little deeper and they are adding a $3,400 "protection plan". What a joke. I can't believe people fall for this. Billion Kia if anyone wants to get ripped off. Kia of DM isn't shy, they just add a $5,000 market adjustment to the price.

When I was managing a dodge dealership, vipers and prowlers sold for about 15-20k over sticker. What is dumb for selling them for what people will pay?

Exclusivity is a feature people will absolutely pay for. In fact the more expensive the product, the more people will pay for it. It's all about signaling status at that point, in which case paying more sends a stronger signal.

will have to ask if they have already "applied" the product or if they add It on during purchase. as the "protection plan" is probably removable I know Stew Hansens Hyundai tried to add an anti theft device to our Palisade we bought and told them no. Saw they tried to charge me for it in finance and told the guy I'm not paying for that as it shouldn't be on there, and they removed the charge. found out a week later as I was cleaning that it was installed anyway so free anti theft...

What’s the labor cost difference? Any?

I don't know exactly ho labor costs figure into models that are made on the same line. I am sure that manufactures account for every operation that goes into building a vehicle and consider that when pricing.

It is easy to picture a Sierra and a Silverdo to be built on the same line, but what is really interesting is that they are built in no particular pattern. This may seem pretty reasonable for two trucks, but this is done with sedans and SUVs also. They might run 3 sedans and then one SUVor any random mix of cars. As long as they are built on the same platform or close enough to the same platform. The operators have everything in their stations to build both models.

They won't remove the protection plan because they know someone will buy the car with it since they are so hard to find. Even the salesperson said it was ridiculous and I thanked him for his time.

Yep, our truck plants build trucks in the order that the sales orders are received - no other rhyme or reason to what gets built when. Everything is sequenced by sales order and parts are delivered to stations as a particular chassis arrives on the line.

Honda/Acura I’ve had 4 total and all were flawless. Ran 3 of them up to 170k or so with no issues.

Mazda 6 was the only pile of crap I’ve owned. Bought it with 35k miles, went to the shop 3 times for motor issues. Traded in with 80k miles for a Honda Accord will never buy a pos Mazda again.

I just got the Telluride this last weekend. They accidently installed some bogus pulse brake light system. Before I could even say anything, they said it was a mistake and they weren't going to charge me for it.

I am not generally hardcore into any brand of car, but I will say this: we've started searching for another school car here after the last one blew a head gasket at 174000 miles and 18 years of age.

One thing I've noticed when looking at cars in the 10+ year old and sub $4000 range is that Ford and Toyota bodies tend to hold up, and Toyota and Honda cars tend to hold value. GM, Mopar and Hyundai/Kia with any kind of age on them ALL have the cancer, you just have to look for it. Hyundai's seem to come apart on the inside after awhile, loose dash components, seats falling apart, etc. And I'm scared as hell of these twin turbo ecoboost engines now that they are starting to get up there as well.

This is my general sense after looking at all kinds of them the last while. It does sort of affect my thinking about longer term purchases when it comes to vehicles, as we tend to buy new and drive a long time in the ones we get.

Ex or SX trim? Our Palisade is currently sitting at 25k miles but has been at the body shop for the last 2 months due to a deer. Then Allstate taking their slow time and parts backorders

nice, we were originally looking at those, but liked the Palisade better after seeing them both in person, and the SEL Premium trim was a bit cheaper to get the few options the fiancée really wanted (heated seats and steering wheel with the sunroof), though I think an EX prestige trim Telluride would have gotten us the cooled seats as well for a few hundred more.

My wife and I actually took a tour of the Ford F-150 plant in Dearborn, MI a few years back while vacationing up there. It was just huge and the internal logistics of that place are incredible. Truck doors, tires, tailgates whizzing by on robotic conveyors, etc. The guide said that at the time they were cranking out a new pickup on the average of every 60 seconds. The factory was a more impressive piece of engineering than anything that was coming off the line.

If you ever go to the Henry Ford Museum, buy that tour. I highly recommend it.

I liked the all digital dash in the Palisade better. As far as the options:

It has the cooled and heated rear seats but I don't really care. 99% of the time no one will be I the back of mine. I also plan on leaving the 3rd row down since it won't be used 99.9999% of the time.

This is my first car with HUD and I really like it. I also like the look of the suede like roof.

The infotainment works well. The only thing that I miss is wireless Android Auto. It has a wireless charger but you still have to plug it in for AA and Carplay. I do wish AA would take up the whole screen instead of 3/4 of it but that's just me being greedy.

The driving assist(HDA, LFA, and SCC) is the best I've experienced. It does a great job of centering you in the lane. The auto hold works well. I turned off the Driver Attention Warning system. My mother had a Honda Fit with the BSM where it would give you a camera view when you turned on your right turn signal, the Telluride has it for both turns and I like it. Just like every other car I've owned, I hate that you can't permanently disable start/stop.

Little things I'm trying to get use to. I'm use to driving coupes so I constantly roll down the back windows instead of the front windows.

Happy with the audio.

I wish the tilt was not mechanical so it could be part of the memory seat function. On previous cars, when I shut off the car the steering wheel would move up and make it easier to exit. The Telluride does something similar on exit but it doesn't adjust the steering wheel.

I won't be paying for UVO after the first year. The 2021 has remote start on the key, which is good. The truth is that I rarely use remote start. I do like that remote start you can have it automatically turn on the seat heater and wheel as well as the cooled seats. We'll see how the cooled seats work in the summer. In previous cars, it made me feel like I wet my pants, which I'm not a fan of.

I wish the lumbar moved up/down.

Mine came with some optional light kit. Probably a waste of money. Along with the roof rack that I'll never use.

I probably have 80% of the settings configured and will adjust and learn over the next few months. So far, I really don't have any huge complaints. My biggest worry was that it would be underpowered but it moves along fine.

My wife is looking at 2016-2019 Mazda CX-3 and CX-5 models. No kids and two dogs. Anyone have one?

Nearly every review I've seen on the CX-5 has been positive. I do know that they introduced a turbo model this year that uses the same motor as the CX-9, which would be nice. When I sat in the CX-5 the only thing that I noticed was that the backseat was a little tight compared to my wifes Tiguan. Oh and I think they made the infotainment screen bigger this year as well (Maybe I'm thinking of the CX-9?).

On a side note, while I was picking up my car they had a new Nissan Rogue in the showroom, which was redesigned. I really liked what they've done with the interior. I'm not sure about the rest of the car and I'm not really a fan of CVT's.

yeah we have just the heated rears, the limited being the next step up on the Palisade would get you everything including the HUD, higher end sound system with larger screen, and the turn signal cameras, but we didn't feel the need to pay the extra $5k for those items. after having the rental Charger we're currently in, the cooled seats are nice on longer drives in that so might have been a nice option to have but again the extra money for the limited. I think the smaller 8 inch screens get wireless AA and carplay for the '21 Palisades at least but seems weird that higher trims don't though. and we have a roof rack box we have used quite often since we usually have the dogs for trips back home and throw almost every thing in that, does drop the hwy MPG down to about 21 using that though, otherwise we see 25-26mpg on the hwy.
