Confidence in you JP

I said before.. Get Matt up to the $4.5 tp $5 mill range. The rest goes to keeping the assistants. That would be very similar to the TOE... not to mention ISU is trending better than they are.

Yep. Right now Campbell is the 41st highest paid college football coach. That’s a slap in the face to what he’s done. I know he’s deferred money from him to assistants but gotta get him into the Top 25 IMO. $4.3 mil annually would get him to #25. $5 mil would get him to #15. Somewhere in that range feels right.

As everybody knows there are financial realities at ISU. Campbell has been content with what he's earned given JP has given more for assistants and has spent tens of millions on new facilities. To this point we have not had the ability to do this. JP is a smart money manager but he isn't a magician.

Point is, ISU football fans will have to pony up big to make this happen.

Manning and Heacock are inline with Campbell at about 41st each for assistant coaches at $900k. Thinking Campbell would want them to match him then Top 25 would take just over $1m each and Top 15 would take $1.25m each.

For Campbell, Manning, and Heacock only, using the range of top 25 - top 15, it'll take $800k - $2m more per year to keep them.

You are right, he isn’t a magician and ISU fans will have to pony up. But it won’t take some massive push - find an extra $1-$2 million per year and give it to Campbell and staff. That’s not an unreasonable ask based on the success of this staff and where they are paid in relation to their peers.

I get what you are saying and agree to an extent. But we are nearing big boy football territory. Which is expensive.

I think a campaign to get more lower dollar donors is the way to go. Try to get non-donors to donate $100 or $250. Try to get $100 donors to $500. And $500 donors to $1,000 donors.
What I was thinking. Probably the 5k and up people wouldn’t see much bump but the 1000 and under could see 50% or have to go up to the next level to hold seats. So 100 goes 250 250/500 500/1000 and 1000/1500 or so.

10 dollars per non student season ticket is probably 300k (guessing 30k non student season tickets) so a 50/year bump is 1.5MM. Would take care of that basically.

Every other sports coach and high six figure admin need to take a few years pay cut to Pay CMC and John. Without much success till now this program is pulling in 90 Million. If CMC can keep this success consistent I can see us going to 150 million per year revenue.

@ZuriCyclone We are still really excited to see your plan to get ISU sports revenue to $150 million. I can't put it together but I am sure you some insight beyond what we can envision.

Please share with us.

I'll go with that. Try to get everyone with season tickets to donate at least $100 in addition to raising ticket prices by $10 / ticket... instance money without making me pay 1000's more ;)

I think JP will throw the kitchen sink at Campbell. If Campbell leaves, I have no doubt it will not be because Pollard wouldn’t give him something he wants.
People need to remember that "throwing the kitchen sink at Campbell" could manifest itself in many ways. It could involve a small raise for himself but big raises for his staff. Or commitment to facilities/player resources. The point is to make sure we're giving Matt what he actually wants, not just paying him because we assume that's what he wants.

The key is to not piss of young donors. Maybe I’m just in a weird situation but I donate $500 (actually my parents) to get paved parking. My parents are planning to stop after my sister graduates. I’m planning to keep that up then. If the parking increases I won’t be able to afford that jump as I'm already higher than most people at my stage in life. I think the key is to give more incentives on the low end. Get small donors but not stretch the middle tier donors to much.

Agree. But the reality is, no one here knows Campbell and what his desires and wants are more than Pollard does. And I think it’s a pretty safe assumption to feel like Pollard will do whatever he’s got to do to keep Campbell happy, as long as it’s within the realms of his power.

Matt's mentor, coach Kehres, built a dynasty and won 11 D3 national championships before retiring as head football coach.

Call me nuts, but I really think Matt doesn't want to just build a top level program and move on to the next challenge. Like his mentor, I think Matt wants to build and SUSTAIN a top level program that's based on culture and values, not the money, 5-star talent, and unforgiving expectations found at blue blood schools.

I think Matt has found a home that fits everything he values.

The dumb thing about talking heads is they just look at it as he’s going to leave because “It’s hard to consistently win at ISU” and mention OU as a the obvious roadblock that ISU will always have to be second fiddle to.

Of course, they never say exactly what jobs are a good fit. Every Big 10, ACC and SEC job is second fiddle at best to OSU, Clemson and Alabama. As for actually competing for a NC, not just getting blown out in the playoffs, you probably have OSU, Clemson, Alabama, OU and Georgia. Last I checked these jobs aren’t open. Everybody else has some SERIOUS work to do to legitimately compete for a NC, and won’t be to that point overnight.

Knowing ISUs fan base, I believe the easiest way to raise $3M to cover salaries and COVID debt retirement would be to raise ticket prices a proportionate amount. This would be viewed as the most fair way to do things given how much the program has improved, and at least in the near term there should be excess demand for seats in JTS. A $20 per game price hike on all non student seats would cover it fairly easily, and I don't think buyers would balk too much at that.

This. Today’s reality with the CFP is that Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma have been to the most playoffs. You get Notre Dame half the time and then a team like LSU to sneak in and the occasional Pac12 team, but even that has been like 4 years. So, what is that, like 8 total teams have made the playoffs since they started in 2014?

Pretty much every other team has serious hurdles to clear to compete for a national title. Some with more advantages financially than others, looking at you Texas, Michigan, Penn State, Georgia, Florida, Auburn, USC, but none of them have the elite coaching to make them consistent enough each year. CMC seems to be taking us to that sort of level. It’s possible here and he now knows it, which has to push that drive even harder for him, the staff, and players.

How much does the Big 12 Bowl success offset the Covid loss of revenue due to cancellation of non conference games & empty seats at home games? Assume the NY6 Bowl & Big 12 Champ game extra revenue are real game changers for JP for what his budgeting thoughts must have been after the UL loss.

That would be $140 bump in season tickets (about 30%). My 50% donation level raise would be a 12.5% bump. Would be about 4.25MM in funds.

I would guess it’s nowhere even close to offsetting loss of ticket revenue.
